Terriers get shutout by Flin Flon on Wednesday night

The Flin Flon Bombers got the game winning goal just over two minutes by Zach Cain before Barron Stibbe added the insurance with just over 2 minutes left to lead them to their 4th straight win, a 2-0 decision over the Yorkton Terriers on Wednesday night. 

Kenneth Marquart made 21 saves to earn his 2nd shutout of the season in the Bombers' goal, while Terrier netminder Caleb Allen turned aside 35 of 37 shots in the loss. 

Yorkton will return to action on Friday hosting Melfort, while the Bombers continue their road trip with a stop in Weyburn tonight (Thurs).

Millionaires' drop home decision to visiting Ice Wolves on Tuesday

                                                       

With the chance to win back to back games, the Melville Millionaires came up short on Tuesday night, falling 6-1 to the visiting La Ronge Ice Wolves.

Felix Beauchemin got the Mils the early lead in the 1st, but Ice Wolves rattled off 6 unanswered off the sticks of Mason Bueckert (2), Lleyton Shearon, Thomas Wright, Dylan Handel and Liam McInnis. 

Dawson Smith was solid in the La Ronge net making 34 saves on 35 shots, while Millionaires' G Clement Labillois made 24 saves in the loss. 

Melville will return to action next Wednesday night on the road to take on the Estevan Bruins 

Yorkton's Berezowski etched name in Everett Silvertips record books on Friday

 

Yorkton's Jackson Berezowski has scored a number of goals in his 250 plus game Western Hockey League career, but the one he recorded on Friday night was just that much more special. 

The 20 year old Everett Silvertip captain netted his record-setting 113th career goal in a 6-5 OT loss to Seattle to become the teams’ all-time leading goal-scorer. 

Berezowski says the feeling to get the goal was both outstanding and relieving. 

"It's pretty cool special I mean, a lot of guys have reached out and I think that's probably the coolest part is just seeing all the overwhelming support from everybody and it kind of shows how tightly knit the organization it's a pretty cool feeling."

Berezowski began his stint with the Silvertips after being selected in 2nd round, 44th overall of the 2017 WHL Draft by the club, and he says he couldn't imagine how everything has come together. 

"I think I was on a phone call with my dad yesterday and we were kind of talking about how surreal it's been and how it came kind of full circle it's pretty cool looking back on a short five years, from when I was 15 going to first Camp & to see how time flies and how it's changed that much."

The Yorkton Minor Hockey alumni has 60 points in 43 games the for 'Tips who currently sit in 5th place in the WHL's Western Conference standings.

Millionaires announce commitment for 2020 1st round pick Gutzke for 2023/24 season 

The SJHL's Melville Millionaires have announced that 2005-born forward Blaze Gutzke has committeed to the club for the 2023/24 season.

 

The product of Francis, Sask was the number 1 overall pick of the 2020 SJHL Draft by the Millionaires.


Gutzke is currently in his 3rd season with the Estevan Bears of the Sask. U18 AAA hockey league and this year has 7 goals, 25 assists for 32 points in 35 games.

Terriers' G Allen named SJHL Goalie of the Week for third time 

The Yorkton Terriers got back in the win column Saturday night in Yorkton and a big reason why was the play of 18-year-old netminder Caleb Allen. The Wings peppered Allen with 48 shots and he turned aside 46 in the 3-2 overtime win. Allen is now 13-19-0-1 on the season with a 3.86 GAA and a .897 Save percentage.

Millionaires drop road decision on Friday night in Humboldt

The Melville Millionaires dropped their 8th straight after a 6-1 road loss to the Humboldt Broncos on Friday night from the EPA.

The Broncos got on the board first just 5:53 into the 1st as Alec Saretzky initial shot was stopped but he was able to pot the rebound five-hole on Clement Labillois for his team-leading 21st of the season to make it 1-0. 

Humboldt added to lead just over 3 minutes later as Noah Barlage's point shot was deflected in nicely by Cage Newans for his 16th to make it a two goal game after 20 minutes.

In the 2nd, the home team added to their lead with a couple of power play goals just 1:53 apart, off the sticks of Saretzky and Carsten Kayter to push their lead to 4-0 through 2 periods.

The Broncos made it 5-1 just 12:29 into the third period as Ben Kotylak netted his 15th of the season.

Caden Drury got the Mils on the board towards the tail-end of the third as he potted home a rebound off a Tucker Buhay initial shot to pull the visitors within 4.

But just 5 seconds later, Kotylak added his 2nd of the night to wrap up the scoring.

Benjamin Motew turned aside 20 of 21 shots in the Broncos net to grab his 13th win of the season, while Millionaires' G Clement Labillois made 46 saves in the loss.

The Millionaires return to action on Saturday night hosting the La Ronge Ice Wolves at the HCUC for a 7:00PM puck drop.

Wednesday Recap from 2023 MJHL/SJHL Showcase in Winnipg

 

GAME 1: 

SJHL 20U Gold 6,  MJHL 20U Black 0

The SJHL 20U Gold used a 4 goal second period to cruise to a 6-0 win over Team MJHL 20U Black to kick off Day 2 of the Showcase. 

Kian Bell (Battlefords) netted a hat-trick for the SJHL squad while Melfort's Dawson Leroux (2) and Ryley Morgan (Weyburn) also scored. 

Melville Millionaires forward Jaxon Martens earned his 2nd point of the event with an assist in the 2nd period. 

Estevan goalie Cam Hrdlicka stopped 35 shots for the shutout, while MJHL G and Swan Valley Stampeders netminder Kobe Grant made 35 saves as well in the loss. 



GAME 2:  

SJHL 20U White 2, MJHL 20U Red 4 

Hayden Laquette (Portage) and Hayden Stocks (Neepawa) each had 1G 1A each to help lead MJHL 20U Red to a 4-2 win over SJHL 20U White. 

Matthew Gough (Dauphin) and Brett Tataryn (Niverville) also scored for MJHL while Swan Valley Stampeder F Trey Sauder had an assist in the game. 

Maguire Ratzlaff (Nipawin) and Jeremi Tremblay (Flin Flon)  replied for the SJHL team


GAME 3:

SJHL 18U Blue 8,  MJHL 18U White 2

Alexi Sylvestre (Flin Flon) scored twice, while Battleford's Jackson Allan chipped in with 1G 2A to lead SJHL 18U Blue to a convincing 8-2 win over MJHL 18U White to wrap up the Showcase. 

Carsten Kayter (Humboldt), Matthew Van Blaircom (Humboldt), Xavier Roy (Humboldt), Ty Mason (Weyburn), Jag Phangura (Estevan) also scored for SJHL Blue. 

Replying for the MJHL squad was Winkler's Brody Beauchemin and Nolan Chastko of the Virden Oil Capitals.

Yorkton Sports HOF & Museum to hold AGM on Feb. 9th

The Yorkton Sports Hall of Fame and Museum will hold its annual general meeting on Thursday February 9th at 7 pm at the Gallagher Centre’s Ravine Room on the main floor.

Agenda items include a report from the chair on the past year’s activities and looking ahead to 2023, presentation of financial statements for 2022, and election of board members.

Directors serve three-year terms. Retiring from the board are Don Pfeifer and Jennifer Ingham, while Randy Goulden is letting her name stand for re-election. Other nominees will be introduced by the nominating committee, and nominations from the floor are welcome.

Memberships for 2023 will be available at the door at $5 per person. The meeting is open to all interested persons, but only members may vote.
