(Yorkton Terriers Press Release)

The Yorkton Terriers are pleased to announce that Matt Weninger (pictured above) will be joining the Terriers staff for the 2015-16 season as the teams Goalie Coach.

Matt is no stranger to the SJHL having played his rookie season in Kindersley (2007-08) before being traded and spending his final two years in the league with the Flin Flon Bombers (2008-10).  Matt was an SJHL All-Star and held numerous records for shutouts and consecutive shutouts.

While playing for Flin Flon Matt accepted an NCAA Division I scholarship to St. Lawrence University, located in Canton, New York. While at St. Lawrence Matt set single season and career records for games played, consecutive games played, minutes played, saves, and is second all-time in wins and shutouts.  Upon the completion of his College career in 2014 Matt finished his season with the Adirondack Phantoms of the AHL. Matt is one of a number of very successful goalies who developed in the SJHL before advancing to the NCAA Division I level.

Matt graduated from St. Lawrence in the spring of 2014 with a degree in Communications.

For the 2014-15 hockey season Matt and his family lived in Sudbury, Ontario where he served as the Goalie Coach for the Laurentian University Voyageurs men’s hockey team at the CIS level.

Originally from Lethbridge, Alberta, Matt and his wife Desirea and their two children Emma and William have recently moved to Regina where Matt currently works for Southeast Connection.

Matt also works as a regional manager/instructor for Alberta and Saskatchewan with Pro Goal Development where he works with numerous young goaltenders.

The Terriers are extremely excited to have a person of Matt’s talent, experience and professionalism on staff to be able to work with their goaltenders for the upcoming season.
