The Yorkton Terriers had their 2015/16 season come to an end on Sunday night, losing 7-0 on home ice to the La Ronge Ice Wolves at the Farrell Agencies Arena.
After the Terriers had a flurry of opportunities including Jordan Ross off the post, and two glorious Jordan Evans' chances right in the low slot but somehow Kris Joyce kept them out to keep it scoreless early in the first. The Ice Wolves, then once again for the 3rd straight game would strike first as Brendan Barron right off a face-off would snipe it over the left shoulder of Jakob Severson for his 3rd of the playoffs to make it 1-0. Then with 6 minutes left in the 1st, Cole Porter would force a turnover at his own blue-line then make a nice move to the backhand past Severson for also his 3rd of the post season to give the Ice Wolves a 2-0 lead after 1 period. Terriers led the shot column at 13-12.
The Ice Wolves would add to their lead and make it 6-0 as Nick Prouty would get his 1st of the series just 14 seconds into the 3rd. Braiden Jakubowski would add one late to complete the hat-trick to make it a 7-0 Ice Wolves Game 3 final over Yorkton.
SJHL MVP Kris Joyce made 38 saves for his 1st SJHL Playoff shutout in goal while Jakob Severson made 26 saves in the loss for the Terriers.
The Ice Wolves will now advance on to take on the defending league champion Melfort Mustangs in the Quarter-Final round.
Post Game Comments from Terriers Head Coach/GM Trent Cassan
**Also tonight's game and the Terrier loss spelled the end to the illustrious and 5 year Jr. career for Keeseekoose's Kailum Gervais (pictured above)
Gervais played 287 career games in a Terrier uniform, compiled 164 points, won 2 SJHL Canalta Cups, 1 Western Canada Cup and helped the Terriers win their first ever RBC Cup National Championship in 2014.
Over my 4 years of doing broadcasts there hasn't been that many guys that put their heart and soul into any organization than Kailum Gervais did for the Yorkton Terriers from playing through being hurt to his involvement in the community, there isn't many that come better than their Terriers number 26.
Congrats on a great Jr. career Kailum, and best of luck in the future and it was pleasure to see you wear number 26 for the Yorkton Terriers in your 5 year SJHL career.
I had chance to catch up with Kailum right after his incredible Junior career came to an end on Sunday night.
