Wolverines acquire G Allen from Yorkton Terriers (SJHL)

 



The SJHL's Yorkton Terriers have traded 19 year old goaltender Caleb Allen to the Waywayseecappo Wolverines in exchange for a player development fee. 

The product of Lone Tree, Colorado suited up in 51 career games as a Terriers compiling a 17-28-3 record with 3.92GAA, 0.893 SV% and 1 shutout. 

So far this season he has a 1-3-1-1 record with a 3.92GAA and 0.866 save percentage.

Yorkton Sacred Heart sweeps SHSAA 4A Provincial Soccer titles

 


It was a clean sweep for the Yorkton Sacred Heart Saints at the 2023 Saskatchewan High School Provincial Soccer Championships.

The Sacred Heart ladies captured the 4A Girls event in Regina after beating Martensville, 8-1 in the Gold medal game.

Meanwhile the Sacred Heart boys won Gold after blanking Lake Lenore 3-0 in the title game, after hammering host Humboldt in the Semi-Final.

The Yorkton Regional Ladies earned the Bronze medal in the 5A Girls championships in Yorkton after a 1-nil victory over Swift Current.

St. Joseph’s won the all-Saskatoon Gold Medal match by doubling up Saskatoon Holy Cross 4-2.

Millionaires capture 4th straight win after home ice triumph over Melfort on Tuesday

MUSTANGS 3, MILLIONAIRES 5 

The Melville Millionaires improved their record to 7 and 2 on the season after a 5-3 victory on Tuesday night over the visiting Melfort Mustangs. 

Euan Morrison (1G 1A), Colby Ball (1G 1A), Caden Drury (2A) and Luc Bydal (2A) led the Mils offensively with 2 points each, while Matt Kjemhus, Jaden Iyogan and Kole Keen also scored. 

Chase Friedt-Mohr, Ryan Duguay and Hayden Prosofsky replied for the Mustangs, who got 32 saves from James Venne who suffered his first defeat in between the pipes on the season. 

Mils netminder William Dyke improved to 6-1 on the season after stopping 32 of 35 shots. 

The Millionaires' will embark on a three game in three nights road-trip starting on Friday night at the Whitney Forum in Flin Flon.

Kyle Grysiuk had 1G 1A as the Winnipeg Freeze used a three goal first period earn their 1st win, a 4-3 victory over the Swan Valley Stampeders at the MJHL Showcase. 

Kylow Monkman, Nicholas Cullen, and Jayden Ward also scored for the Freeze who got 35 stops from Braxton Burdeny in the win. 

Owen Warnick, Alex Walicki and Amar Powar replied for the Stampeders whose record dropped to 3-9-1 on the season. 

Swan Valley returns to action on Friday night hosting the red-hot Virden Oil Capitals at the Centennial Arena.

Stampeders' drop MJHL Showcase opener to Selkirk on Monday





STAMPEDERS 2, STEELERS 3 


Trey Sauder and Luke Schaeffer scored but it wasn't enough as the Swan Valley Stampeders dropped a 3-2 decision to the Selkirk Steelers to kick-off their 2023 MJHL Showcase.

Mathieu Catellier, Joel Purdom and Nick Giasson led the Steelers offensively while Nick Olsanowski made 28 saves to earn the victory. 

Elias Giaccari-Dimitriou turned aside 35 of 38 shots in the loss. 

The Stampeders will be back on the ice on Tuesday afternoon in Winnipeg at 2:00PM MB time vs. Winnipeg Freeze

Whitewood's Hamilton to suit up in 2023 World U17s

 


Hockey Canada has announced the 44 players who will compete with Team Canada Red and Team Canada White at the 2023 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, Nov. 2-11 in Charlottetown and Summerside, PEI.

Among those selected include Whitewood product and 16 year old Reese Hamilton, who'll suit up for Team Canada Red.

The defenceman is currently in his 1st full season with the WHL's Calgary Hitmen and currently has 2 goals, 5 assists for 7 points in 12 games this season.



 


 

Yorkton's Berezowski named ECHL Player of the Week




It was a great opening of his first full year of professional hockey for Yorkton's Jackson Berezowski.


Berezowski, who is under contract with AHL's Toronto Marlies, scored three goals - including a pair of game-winning tallies - and added four assists for seven points in three games against Reading during the opening weekend of the season.


The 21 year old also netted his 1st professional goal on Friday night against childhood friend Nolan Maier.

Stamps drop third straight after road loss in Virden

STAMPEDERS 1, OIL CAPITALS 10

The Swan Valley Stampeders dropped their third straight on Friday night falling 10-1 to the Virden Oil Capitals on the road. 

The Stamps' strike first just over 15 minutes into the third as Callum Halls re-directed home a Trey Sauder wrist shot past Eric Reid to make it 1-0.

But the Oil Caps responded with two quick ones just 34 seconds apart from Nolan Chastko and Brice Bryant to give them a 2-1 lead after 1 period. 

The offence continued for the home team throughout as they added three more in the 2nd and 5 goals in the final frame en route to their 4th straight win.

Chastko and Roux Bazin each had two, while Joey Bielik, Naton Miller, Luke McKenzie, Braeden Lewis, and Brett Sabel also scored.

Eric Reid made 26 saves on 27 shots to earn the win, while Elias Giacarri-Dimitriou made 30 saves in the loss.

The Stampeders look to rebound on Saturday night hosting Neepawa, while Oil Capitals entertain the Winnipeg Freeze.

Yorkton Korczak's scores 1st NHL goal in Vegas' victory on Tuesday over Dallas

October 17th, 2023 will always be a special night for Yorkton product Kaedan Korczak. 

Not only did his Vegas Golden Knights beat Dallas in the shootout, but the 22 year old also netted his 1st National Hockey League goal. 

Cutting to the middle, Brett Howden made a drop pass to a streaking Korczak who suddenly had some room to get to the top of the faceoff circle with traffic in front, his shot found the top left corner, beating goaltender Jake Oettinger cleanly.

Korczak also has an assists to go along with the goal for 2 points in two games this season with Vegas.

BRONCOS 7,  TERRIERS 2 

Spencer Bell had 1G 2A while Aidan Fischer made 18 stops as the Humboldt Broncos used a three goal first period to power past the Yorkton Terriers 7-2 on Tuesday night. 

Marik Mamic, Chase Cooke, Maddox Amaral, Connor Thue, Brayden Skogstad and Cade Newans also scored for the Broncos, while Anthony McIntosh (1st SJHL goal) and Aidan Knutson replied for the Terriers who dropped their 4th straight. 

Caleb Allen allowed 6 goals on 24 shots for the Terriers before being relieved by Blake Sittler who allowed one goal on 11 shots. 

The Terriers return to action on Saturday night hosting the Weyburn Red Wings.

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines used a 4 goal second period en-route to a 7-5 win over the Swan Valley Stampeders in front a great chunk of  young fans in their annual School kids game. 

Thomas Kaufield scored twice while Sean Williams, Owen Pringle, Sam McPeak, Lucas Perry, Garrett Zasitko, and Owen Wheatley also scored for the Wolverines. 

Josh Danis and Alex Walicki led the way for the Stamps with 1G 2A each while Landen Gulutzan, Trey Sauder and Darius Makse chipped in with singles.

Marek Andres made 24 saves to net the win, while Stamps' G Liam Vanderkooi turned aside 40 of 47 shots in the loss. 

The Stampeders return to action on Friday night visiting Virden. GX94 will broadcast the game with the pregame show starting 7:20 and play by play starting 7:30PM MB time from Tundra Oil & Gas Place.

Millionaires' Keen named SJHL Rookie of the Week


The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League is out with their weekly award winners from the past week, and a member of the Melville Millionaires was honoured.

17 year old forward Kole Keen was named as the league's Rookie of the Week. 

The White City, Saskatchewan product netted his 1st SJHL goal over the past week, while also adding three assists in three games in helping the Mils sweep their Highway 10 rivals, the Yorkton Terriers over the weekend. 

Keen in his 1st season, currently 1 goals, 6 assists for 7 points in 7 games.  

Other weekly award winners from this past week included Humboldt's Kody Thue (MVP/Defenceman of Week), Braxton Buchberger of Nipawin (Saskatchewan player of week), Flin Flon's Harmon Laser-Hume & Kenneth Marquart (Goalie of the Week) and Justin Lies of the Flin Flon Bombers (Forward of the Week).

Millionaires complete weekend of Highway 10 rivals' Yorkton: Stamps fall on home ice to Steinbach

The Melville Millionaires improved to 5 and 2 on the season after a 3-1 victory over the Yorkton Terriers on Saturday night.

Liam Cox-Smith, Preston Tauter and Tucker Buhay scored for the Mils who got a 39 save victory from netminder William Dyke.

Cooper Algayer replied for the Terriers, while Terriers' G Blake Sittler made 39 stops in the loss.

The Terriers return to action on Tuesday night hosting the Humboldt Broncos while the Millionaires return to action on Saturday night visiting the Melfort Mustangs.

The Swan Valley Stampeders failed to win back to back games after dropping a 6-3 home ice decision to the Steinbach Pistons on Saturday night.

Hunter Degelman (2G 1A), Brady Ingebritson (1G 2A)  and Leo Chambers (1G 2A) led the way for the Pistons with three points each, while David Cote and Grady Hoffman also scored.

Cole Plowman made 21 saves on 24 shots in the win, while Stamps' G Liam Vanderkooi turned aside 37 shots in the loss. 

Owen Warnick, Callum Halls and Darius Makse supplied the offence for the Stampeders. 

Swan Valley returns to action on Tuesday for a matinee starting at 12:30PM on the road against the Waywayseecappo Wolverines.

MILLIONAIRES 4, TERRIERS (SO) 

Liam Cox-Smith scored the shootout winner as the Melville Millionaires improved to 4 and 2 on the season after a 4-3 shootout win over the Yorkton Terriers on Friday night. 

Jaden Iyogun, Cox-Smith and Kole Keen (1st SJHL goal) scored in regulation for the Mils, while Clay Sleeva, Cade Kennedy and Aiden Knutson replied for the Terriers, who got 25 saves from Caleb Allen in the SOL. 

William Dyke made 23 saves on 26 Terrier shot to improve his record to 4-1 on the season. 

The two teams will meet once again in Melville on Saturday.

Jakob Jones scored his 2nd goal of the game just 56 seconds into overtime as the Swan Valley Stampeders edged the Selkirk Steelers 4-3. 

Jones and Griffin Ayotte got the Stamps out to a 2-0 lead before Mathieu Moreira, Nick Giasson and Colton Crysler helped the Steelers storm to a 3-2 lead, before Stamps captain Ashton Fishley scored the equalizer with 1:59 left in the regulation. 

Elias Giaccari-Dimitriou made 42 saves on 45 shots in the win, while Steelers netminder Jack Hodgins stopped 31 shots in the OTL. 

The Stampeders will host the Steinbach Pistons on Saturday, while the Steelers continue their road-trip visiting the The Blizzard in The Pas. 


WOLVERINES 9, TITANS 2

Jack Clarke recorded his 1st careet MJHL hat-trick, while Sam McPeak & Sean Williams each scored twice to lead the Waywayseecappo Wolverines to a big 9-2 victory on Friday over the Neepawa Titans. 

Ryan Jossy and Ben Roulette also scored the Wolverines who got a 19 save victory from starter Marek Andres. 

The Wolverines return to action on Sunday afternoon at 3PM MB time visiting the Winkler Flyers.

Terriers; Stampeders both get shutout on Tuesday night

BOMBERS 5, TERRIERS 0 

Alexi Sylvestre scored twice, while Jacob Vockler had 1G 2A to lead the Flin Flon Bombers to a 5th straight win, a 5-0 decision on Tuesday over the Yorkton Terriers. 

Liam Bridger and Brock Mueller also scored for the Bombers who got a 35 save shutout from Harmon Laser-Hume. 

Terriers' starter Blake Sittler made 28 saves on 33 shots in the losing cause. 

The Terriers return to the ice on Friday night hosting their Highway 10 rivals, the Melville Millionaires.

STAMPEDERS 0, TITANS 2 

The Swan Valley Stampeders had their record drop to 2 and 4 on the season after a 2-0 road loss on Tuesday night to the Neepawa Titans. 

Mason Lobreau stopped all 31 shots he faced for Neepawa to earn the shutout while Cody Gudnason and Cooper Kasprick chipped in with the Titan goals. 

Liam Vanderkooi did all he could in the Stamps net making 41 saves on 43 shots. 

The Stampeders' next game will be on Friday night entertaining the Selkirk Steelers at the Centennial Arena.

Millionaires' win streak snapped at three with road defeat in Estevan



The Melville Millionaires' 3 game winning streak came to an end on Monday afternoon after a 4-3 road to the Estevan Bruins at Affinity Place.

The Bruins got on the board first just 5:47 in as Keegon Little capitalized on some sloppy defensive zone play from the Mils and tucked home his 1st of the season to make it 1-0.

Then just over 3 minutes later they made it 2-0 as Ilya Chmelevski took a nice feed in front Brendan Hunchak and beat Mils' netminder Ethan Rau far-side for his 2nd at the 8:50 mark of the 1st frame. 

The visiting Millionaires got off to a hot start in the 2nd as 8:57 in, Brendan Olson finished off his 2nd of the season to make it 2-1 then just 3 minutes later, Flynn Maxcy went top-shelf over the left shoulder of Cam Hrdlicka to pull the Mils even. 

But the great 2nd period got put to a halt as Owen Barrow notched home another powerplay goal with just 1:42 left in the middle frame to regain Estevan a lead at 3-2 through 2 periods.

The Bruins regained their two goal lead with 7:41 left in regulation as after a scramble in front,Felix Allard tapped home the eventual game winner to push it to 4-2. 

The Mils got one late in the final minute on the powerplay as Colby Ball's point shot snuck through but that's as close as they would get. 

Bruins' G Cam Hrdlicka made 29 saves on 32 shots to earn the victory while Ethan Rau in the his first start in the Mils' crease made 28 stops in the loss.

The Millionaires return to action on Friday night visiting the Yorkton Terriers for the first Highway 10 battle of the regular season, while Bruins entertain the Flin Flon Bombers on Friday night.

The Swan Valley Stampeders snapped their 2 game losing streak on Friday night after 6-3 road victory over the Waywayseecappo Wolverines.

Alex Walicki led the way offensively for the Stampeders with 1G 2A while Jakob Jones (1G 1A), Trey Sauder (1G 1A) & Matthew Munro (2A) had two points each. 

Riley Fequet, Josh Danis and Landen Gulutzan also scored for Swan who got 39 saves from Liam Vanderkooi for his 1st MJHL win.

Luke McCarthy led Waywayseecappo with 1 goal and 2 assists while Neo Kiemeney and Jesiah Bennett scored singles.

Rookie netminder Jase Wareham made 22 stops in his MJHL debut.

Flynn Maxcy's game winner came at the 59 second mark of overtime to lead the Melville Millionaires to their 3rd straight win, a 5-4 decision over the La Ronge Ice Wolves. 

Luc Bydal scored twice for the Millionaires who got singles from Jadon Iyogun and Caden Drury.

Mason Bueckert, Raine Hodge, Jaden Beauchamp and Jacob Cossette replied for the Ice Wolves.

William Dyke made 35 saves on 39 shots to improve his record to 3 and 1 record on the season.

Terriers drop home ice decision on Wednesday to visiting Ice Wolves


The Yorkton Terriers put together a strong effort on home ice but weren't rewarded as they fell 4-2 on Wednesday to the La Ronge Ice Wolves. 

In a 1st period that was dominated by the Terriers, it was the Ice Wolves that got the only goal as SJHL leading scorer Mason Bueckert capitalized on a Terrier turnover and potted home his 5th of the season to make it 1-0 after 1 period.

The top-ranked Ice Wolves powerplay added to to their lead early in 2nd as while up two-men, Parker Layton walked in from the left point and sniped home his 1st of the year over the left shoulder to make it 2-0 then just over 3 minutes later Seth Dragan tapped in a rebound by Caleb Allen for his 2nd to give the visitors a three goal advantage after 40 minutes. 

In the 3rd, the Terriers finally got some offensive luck as 11:18 into the period Dylan Ruptash finished off a nice feed from Clay Sleeva & buried home his 3rd to make it 3-1. 

Just 2 minutes later the Terrier cut their deficit within one as Regina's Cade Kennedy completed a nice passing play from linemates Ruptash and Sleeva for his 2nd of the season. 

But that's as close as the home team would get as Rylan Silzer iced it into the empty net with 5 seconds left to help the Ice Wolves snap a three game slide.

Ice Wolves goaltender Topher Chirico was the difference making 40 stops to earn the win, while Terrier netminder Caleb Allen stopped 12 of 15 shots in the losing cause. 

The two teams will meet again on Saturday night at the Westland Insurance Arena, but before that the Ice Wolves continue their roadie on Friday night visiting the Melville Millionaires

Terriers' Perkins named SJHL Defenceman of the Week





 Yorkton Terrier defenceman Tyson Perkins was named the SJHL's Defenceman of the Week.



The Terriers split their two games with the Battlefords North Stars lastweek and the 20-year-old Perkins had a two big nights at Westland Arena, earning five assists, including four Friday night in the Terriers 9-6 loss.



The Terriers return to action tomorrow (Wed) hosting the La Ronge Ice Wolves.
