Stamps' move into 1st place after home win over Dauphin

The Swan Valley Stampeders (5-1-0-0) pulled into sole possession of 1st place in the MJHL standings on Wednesday night after a 5-3 win over the visiting Dauphin Kings (3-3-0-0) at the Centennial Arena in Swan River.

Josh Maucieri (2G), Noah Basarab (1G 1A), and Dane Hirst (2A) led the way offensively with 2 points each while Kasyn Kruse and MJHL leading scorer Quintin Sudom also chipped in with a goal each.

Sammy Mouland, Riley Shamray and Carter Sawchuk replied for the Kings.

Delano, Minnesota product Jackson Hjelle made 22 saves on 25 saves to earn his 1st MJHL victory while Kings' net minder Brennan Kitchen stopped 35 shots in the loss.

The Stamps now head out on the road for a weekend road trip starting on Friday night when they visit the Winkler Flyers before taking on the Steinbach Pistons on Saturday. The Kings will return home for a couple games this weekend against the Selkirk Steelers.

In the Prairie Junior Hockey League,

Colby Jacob scored the winner on the power play mid way through the 3rd to lead the Fort Knox to their 2nd straight win, a 3-2 decision over the Regina Silver Foxes.

Brennan Watson and Brandon Pelletier also scored for the Knox while Jacob Taylor made 38 saves to earn the victory.

The Knox return to the ice on Saturday night at 8PM when they host the West Central Rage from the Fort Rexentre.

**The Melville Millionaires announced on Twitter that Friday's home game against the Yorkton Terriers has been rescheduled for October 27th at 7:30 p.m. due to ice plant issues at the Horizon Credit Union Centre.

**The next game now for the Melville Millionaires and Yorkton Terriers will be on Saturday night at 7:30 from the FAA in Yorkton.

Stampeders; Terriers both win in Tuesday Night's SJHL/MJHL Recap

The Swan Valley Stampeders used a 4 goal third period to lead them to a 6-3 win on Tuesday night over the visiting Virden Oil Capitals.

The Oil Caps would strike first just 4:18 into the 1st as Tanner Andrew would capitalize on the powerplay to give the visitors an early 1-0 lead. But the Stamps would come back and respond with a couple power play goals of their own just 13 seconds apart by Quinton Sudom (Pictured above) and Justin Svenson (1st MJHL goal) to pull the Stamps ahead 2-1. But that lead didn't last long as Kolten Kanaski would slam home his 4th of the season just 36 seconds later to make it a 2-2 game after 1 period.

Shots were 17-11 Swan after 20 minutes.

In the 2nd, there would only be one goal scored and it would be Oil Caps' 2nd year forward Hunter Cloutier after mad scramble picking up a loose puck and sliding it by a sprawled out Michael Davis for another goal on the man advantage to give Virden a 3-2 lead headed into the 2nd intermission.

Virden led in shot department 26-21 after 2 periods.

In the 3rd it was all Stampeders. Matt Osadick would kick things off just 4:30 into the final frame with his 3rd goal of the year to pull the Stamps even at 3-3. Then just under 6 minutes later, Noah Basarab would get the eventual game winner deflecting home a Quinton Sudom point shot by Dalton Dosch for his 4th to make it 4-3. Sudom would add couple more insurance markers later in the 3rd to complete the Hat-Trick to lead his team to the 2 points.

St. Albert AB product Michael Davis won his 4th straight start to begin the season making 29 saves on 32 shots while Oil Caps netminder Dalton Dosch turned aisde 22 shots in the losing cause.

The Stampeders will be back on the ice tonight as they host the Dauphin Kings from the Centennial Arena at 7:30PM MB time. The Oil Caps will host the Waywayseecappo Wolverines on Thursday night.

In the SJHL,

Jared Legien scored four times while also adding an assist & Chantz Petruic scored the OT winner as the Yorkton Terriers defeated the Humboldt Broncos 8-7 at the Farrell Agencies Arena.

Ben Solomon, Aiden Bulych, and Cody Bruchkowski also scored for the Terriers whie Ben Laidlaw made 25 saves in the win.

Brayden Camrud had a 5 point night while Riker Franczak netted a Hat-Trick to lead the way for the Broncos.

The Terriers' next game will be on Saturday night when they host the Melville Millionaires from the FAA. Puck drop is at 7:30.

Wolverines' acquire 20 year old Many Guns from in 3-Team Trade


The Wayway Wolverines had add size, toughness and scoring punch to their line-up after completing a 3-team trade with the OCN Blizzard and the SJHL's La Ronge Ice Wolves earlier today (Tues).

The Wolverines acquired 20-year-old forward Trygve Many Guns from the OCN Blizzard. The Siksika, AB product has 3 goals, 3 assists for 6 points in 4 games early this season. Last year he had 26 points in 39 games played.

The other parts of the trade include the Ice Wolvines acquiring 18 year old F Peyton Malcolm.

Malcolm had 9 points in 31 points last season with the Wolverines.

The Blizzard will receive 19 year old F James Maxwell & 17 year old prospect Keeann McPherson.

Terriers; Mils both fall in Sunday's SJHL Recap

The Yorkton Terriers fell to 2-4-1 on the season on Sunday night after a 6-3 loss to the Notre Dame Hounds at the Farrell Agencies Arena.

The Terriers powerplay went 3/10 on the night getting goals from Aiden Bulych, Chantz Petruic and Branden Klatt.

Jakob Breault had 2 goals to lead the way for the Hounds.

The Terriers' next game will be on Tuesday night when they host the Humboldt Broncos at 7:30PM.

The Melville Millionaires dropped their 5th game in a row, falling 3-1 to the La Ronge Ice Wolves.

Ethan Schmor's 1st SJHL goal was the lone marker for the Mils while Colby Entz made 35 saves in the loss.
