Stamps strike first in MJHL Survivor Series with a 4-3 win over Wayway in Game 1
The Swan Valley Stampeders have the early edge in the MJHL Best of 3 Survivor series as they beat the visiting Wayway Wolverines 4-3 on home ice to take a 1-0 series advantage.
The Wolverines would get on the board first just 4:24 into the 1st as Brayden Cullum would jam home his 1st of the postseason on the PP to give them an early 1-0 lead. The Stamps would even it up at the 14:58 mark of the opening period as Connor Navrot would deflect home a Carter McMurdo point shot for his 1st of the playoffs to make it a 1-1 game after 1. Shots were 13-11 Waywayseecappo after 20 mins.
In the 2nd, the Wolverines would get off to a good start once again as Wolverine captain Alex Keena would score 2 goals in the opening 3:59 of the 2nd to give his team a 3-1 lead. But once again the Stamps would come back to tie things up as first off it would be Michael Fortin sniping home his 1st playoff goal of these playoffs at 5:59 of the 2nd to cut the Wayway lead to 3-2. Carter McMurdo (pictured above) would make 3-3 as his point shot would get through for his 1st to knot it up after 40 mins.
Stamps forward Trevor Mann would get the only goal of the 3rd at 5:48 and it would stand up to be the game winner as he would work his way into the Wolverine zone and let it go and it would sneak through Troy Martyniuk for his 1st of the playoffs to give the Stamps, a 4-3 Game 1 victory over Wayway to grab a 1-0 lead in the Best of 3 Survivor Series.
20 year old Zach Degraves made 32 saves for the win in goal for the Stamps while Wolverine net minder Troy Martyniuk made 37 stops in the loss.
Game 2 of this series will go on Tuesday Night in Waywayseecappo. Pregame 7:20, pxp at 7:30 with Yorkton Dodge Junior Hockey on GX94.
