Terriers; Stampeders both drop Friday night Playoff matchup on road

The Yorkton Terriers gave up 4 unanswered goals en route to a 5-2 Game 2 loss to the La Ronge Ice Wolves on Friday night.

The Ice Wolves would once again strike first in Game 2 as Brenden Barron would bang home his 3rd of the postseason to make it a 1-0 game. But just 3:02 later, the Terriers would respond as Carson Welke would bang home his 1st of the playoffs to tie it up at 1-1 after a back and forth & feisty opening period. Shots were even after 20 minutes at 15-15.

The Terriers got off to a good start to the middle frame as Jordan Ross would snipe home his 1st of playoffs to give Yorkton their first lead of the series at 2-1. Matt Painchaud would tie things up at 2-2 as his shot would sneak through Jakob Severson for his 1st of the series. The Ice Wolves would then score 2 goals, 50 seconds apart by Nakeho Lamothe and Jared Blacquiere to help La Ronge get back in front at 4-2 after 40 minutes. Shots 32-25 Ice Wolves after 2 periods.

The Ice Wolves would add another one in the 3rd as Matt Painchaud would add his 2nd of the night on the power play to help La Ronge win their 2nd straight, 5-2 over the Terriers.

Kris Joyce made 33 saves to get his 2nd win of the playoffs while Jakob Severson stopped 40 in the loss.

The series now shifts back to Yorkton for Game 3 on Sunday night from the Farrell Agencies Arena in Yorkton. Pregame show at 7:20, pxp will be at 7:30 with Yorkton Dodge Junior Hockey on GX94.

Meanwhile in the MJHL from Steinbach,

The Swan Valley Stampeders dropped their Quarter-Final opening losing on the road, 7-3 to the Steinbach Pistons.

Connor Navrot, Trevor Mann and Jordie Valentino scored for the Stamps while Zach deGraves made 34 saves in the Game 1 loss.

Quinton Lisoway and Tyler Penner had 2 goals for the Pistons.

Game 2 is set for Saturday night in Steinbach, GX94 will broadcast the game with Yorkton Dodge Junior Hockey, pregame 7:50 pxp at 8PM/
