Mils fall in shootout in Reg. Season Finale; Terriers Clinch Pennant; Stamps also win on Friday night

The Melville Millionaires got a point in their regular season finale but lost 3-2 in the shootout to the Notre Dame Hounds

It wasn't the start the Mils would start in their final regular season game as just 19 seconds into the hockey game, the Hounds would get on the board as Dillion Schwartzenberger would get his 13th goal of the season to give Notre Dame an early 1-0 lead. It would stay like that until the 9 minute mark of the first frame as the Hounds would increase their lead to 2 when Corey Anderson would slip it five hole on Isaiah Plett for his 16th goal of the season to give the visitors a 2-0 lead after 1 period of play.

The Mils would seem like they would find their legs in the 2nd, as they would come out firing with a couple great opportunities and they would get rewarded as Reed Murray would fire a snap shot that snuck through Alexi Thibaudeau for his 13th goal to give the Mils some life and cut their deficit to just 1 goal at 2-1 after 40 minutes.

In the 3rd period it would start like the 1st as the Hounds would come out and control much of the start of the period in the Mils' zone, but weren't able to convert. It would stay tied until halfway through the 3rd period when Ashton Clark would let a shot go from his off wing and it would be Thibedeau for his 5th goal of the season to tie it up at 2-2. Then just a few minutes later, Kelvin Walz would use his good speed and split the Hounds dman and go in on a breakaway but a shot that the fans thought initially went in, somehow did not and it stayed even after regulation and also after overtime.

In the shootout, Tuesday's shootout hero for the Mils Alec Brandrup would go first but was denied and then Sam Aulie would be the first Notre Dame shooter to go and he would beat Plett with the wrist shot to give them the early lead in the shootout. But the Mils next shooter Kelvin Walz would go forehand, backhand top shelf on the Hounds goalie to even the shootout at 1-1. The next couple of shooters would miss and then it would be Spencer Trapp's chance to end it and he would to give the Hounds the 3-2 shootout win over the Mils.

The Mils will now end the season with 74 points, and will need the North Stars to not win in regulation for them to get home ice in the 1st round of the playoffs, if they don't win the Mils play the Stars with home ice. If the Stars win in regulation, and the Klippers get a point the Mils will play the Klippers without home ice. So easily put if Stars play Mils, (Mils have home ice), if Mils play Klippers (Kindersley has home ice).

The Yorkton Terriers before they even won their overtime game, clinched the league pennant with their 1 point, but then Brett Boehm got the overtime in the final minute to lead the Terriers over the Bombers 2-1.
