The Melville Millionaires put together a pretty good road game but they weren't able to capitalize on their chances as they lost 2-0 to the Estevan Bruins on Thursday night to extend their losing streak to 3 games.
In the first you could tell that both of these teams hadn't played together for 5 days as both teams got off to a slow start with first team to record a shot was the Melville Millionaires 5 minutes into the first frame. The play started to pick up as the first period went on, but both teams were not able to break through as it was scoreless through 20 minutes with the Mils leading in the shot column 12-7.
The middle frame would start off the opposite as the opening one, as both teams had a lot of jump early on with the Mils had a great opportunity of the stick of Greyson Reitmier but he wasn't able to beat Bruins' netminder Brett Lewchuk. The Bruins as the 2nd period went on got stronger and stronger but the play of Mils netminder Josh Bykowski also got better and better as the period went on but still both teams were not able to break the goose egg as the game was still tied at 0-0 with now the Bruins having a 24-16 advantage in the shot column.
It wouldn't take long for the Bruins to break the deadlock as just 2:30 minutes into the 3rd period on a very fortunate bounce as Ryan Duret's cross ice pass went off the leg of a Millionaire defenseman and went five-hole on Bykowski to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead. As the period would go on the Mils would have their opportunities to tie it up including a couple power plays but they were not able to beat Brett Lewchuk on this night. Bruins dman Josh Rieger would beat Bykowski on a wrap around to give them some insurance with his 2nd of the season to give the Bruins the 2-0 home win.
Brett Lewchuk stopped 30 shots for the shutout victory while 19 year old Josh Bykowski made 29 saves in a losing cause.
The Mils will look to get back on the win track on Saturday night when they visit the Weyburn Red Wings at 7:30 from Crescent Point Place.
