Wiebe's shutout leads Wayway past Dauphin on Tuesday night

(Mitch Wiebe)

The Wayway Wolverines were looking to put together a solid effort try and snap their 5 game losing streak and they did so in a big way as they blanked the Dauphin Kings 4-0 on Tuesday from the Wayway Arena Complex.

The Wolverines would get off to a little slow start to the opening frame but would pick up the pace as the period went on, controlling much of it and they would rewarded for their efforts. Neil Woolfrey got his 2nd and 3rd goals of the season to give the home side a 2-0 advantage after 1 period.

In the 2nd, the Wolverines would continue on their strong play not only offensively but always on the defensive side of the puck as they did a very good job all night long of keeping the Kings away from any great scoring chances. George Spilchal would sneak through his 2nd of the season past Riley Corbin to increase Wayway's lead to 3-0 through 40 minutes.

The Kings would come out firing in the 3rd, looking to wrestle their way back into the hockey game but they were unsuccessful in doing so as Wolverines' net minder Mitch Wiebe shut the door. Wayway would add one more in the 3rd as local product 17 year old Landyn Cochrane would notch home his 1st MJHL goal to complete the scoring and a 4-0 Wayway victory.

Mitch Wiebe (pictured above)  made 24 saves on the night for his 1st shutout of the season while Riley Corbin made 22 saves in a losing cause.

The Wolverines will be back on the ice on Wednesday night when they travel to take on the OCN Blizzard at 7PM MB time.
