Johnson's Hat Trick leads Stamps past Neepawa 7-3







The Swan Valley Stampeders (13-14-3) moved into sole possession of 6th place in the MJHL standings with a 7-3 thrashing of the Neepawa Natives (10-20-1) on Sunday night.

The Stamps' couldn't have drew up a better opening period on the road as they would able 1st period goals from Carter Johnson (pictured above), Michael Fortin and Braydon MacDonald in span of 9:23 to give them an early 3-0 lead after 20 minutes.

In the 2nd, the Stamps would continue on their offensive outburst just 2:45 into the middle frame as Johnson would deflect home his 2nd of the night and 10th of the season to give the Stamps a 4-0 lead. But just a short time later, Neepawa would get on the board as Brayden Atkinson would bang home his 7th of the year on the powerplay to make it a 4-1 game. Jordan Valentino would regain the Stamps 4 goal at 5-1 , with a power play goal of his own his 5th of this MJHL season. The Natives would be able to get a couple more before the 2nd period buzzer would sound off the sticks of Kyle McDonald and Steven Mather to make it a 5-3 SV lead through 2 periods of play.

In the 3rd, it would be Swan Valley being the only team to break out offensively as they would add 2 more goals for good measure as Carter Johnson would complete the Hat-Trick (11th goal of the season) while Bo Sigurdson chipped in with the other to make it a 7-3 Stamps final.

Graham Hunt made 23 saves for the victory in net for SV, while Reid Stallard stopped 33 shots in a losing cause.

The Stamps next action will be on Wednesday night when they entertain the Wayway Wolverines from the Centennial Arena. GX94 will broadcast the game, pregame 7:20, pxp at 7:30 with Yorkton Dodge Junior Hockey.

Elsewhere in the MJHL tonight,

The Wayway Wolverines dropped their 5th straight game as they fell 4-2 to the Portage Terriers.

Montana Tanner led the way for the Wolverines with a 1G 1A while Alex Keena chipped in with the other marker.

The Terriers were led by Zack Waldvogel and Brad Bowles who had 3 points each.

Mitch Wiebe in the loss, made 22 saves in between the pipes.

The Wolverines will be like mentioned above, will be Swan Valley on Wednesday night.

In the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League,

The Melville Millionaires increased their Viterra division lead to 7 points tonight as they defeated the Notre Dame Hounds 4-3 in the shootout.

Dalton Menke (2G), Cole Berreth (2A) & Greyson Reitmeier (2A) led the way offensively for the Mils while Lane Harbor chipped with the other Millionaire goal in regulation. Landon Farrell had the only goal, the game winner in the shootout.

Peyton Hogan, Sam Aulie and Ian Williams replied with the Hounds.

Troy Trombley once again continued his very strong play as of late, as he turned aside 50 shots for the victory, while Alexi Thibedeau made 27 saves in the shootout loss.

The Mils will go for their 3rd straight win and try for their 4th in 5 games when they welcome the Weyburn Red Wings on Wednesday night at 7:30 from the Horizon Credit Union Center.
