Wolverines; Terriers victorious as they both head into X-Mas Break

The Wayway Wolverines wanted to go into their Christmas break with a bang and they certainly did that as they hammered the OCN Blizzard on Friday night 7-1 to get win number 11 on the season.

The first period was a period dominated by the Blizzard early on, as they had all kinds of chances to open the scoring, but every chance they'd get they were denied by goaltender Mitch Wiebe. The Wolverines would open the scoring at the 16:02 mark of the opening frame as Brock Paddock would squeak one through to give the Wolverines a 1-0 lead after 20 mintues.

In the 2nd, it would be all Wolverines as they muster 4 goals in the middle frame. The goal party would start at 4:23 mark, as George Spilchal would bang home his 13th goal of the season to make it a 2-0 Wayway lead. Rylee Zimmer would add their third Wolverine goal shorthanded for his 5th to make it 3-0. Neil Woolfrey and Spilchal again, would add singles in the late stages of the 2nd period to give the Wolverines a 5-0 lead after 2 periods.

It would be more of the same in the 3rd, as Wayway would add a couple more as Rhett Lough (1st as a Wolverine) and Zimmer would add the Wolverine markers. But the shutout bid for Mitch Wiebe would end with just 5:12 remaining as Brendan Barron would rip home a powerplay goal for the Blizzard to break the goose egg, but Wayway held on for the 7-1 victory.

Mitch Wiebe (pictured above) was the busier of the goaltenders as he turned aside 40 shots for the win while Brodie Claeys made 19 saves in the loss.

The Wolverines are now on their Christmas break, there next action will be on Jan. 3rd when they visit the Winnipeg.
