Nov. 10th Local SJHL/MJHL Recap

MJHL

The Swan Valley Stampeders battled back a couple times on home ice but eventually fell 4-3 in overtime to the visiting Winkler Flyers.

The Flyers got off to an early 2-0 lead as Tanner George and Jayce Legaarden before Trey Sauder cut their deficit late in the first to make it 2-1 after 1.

In the 2nd, the Stamps tied things up as Alex Walicki's long point shot was tipped home by Darius Makse for his team-leading 8th to make it 2-2 before Spencer Shugrue sniped home the go-ahead goal just over 40 minutes later to help Winkler to another one goal lead through 40 minutes.

The Stamps' powerplay came up in the third as they tied things up as captain Ashton Fishley's point shot beat a screened Malachi Klassen for his 5th of the season.

In overtime, just over half-way in Noah Diemer would call game as he weaved his way through the attacking zone & then slip it over the left shoulder of Stamps' G Gage Stewart to help the visitors earn the extra point

Malachi Klassen turned aside 18 of 21 shots in the Flyers net for the win, while Gage Stewart made 40 saves on 44 shots for Swan Valley.

The Stamps return to action on Sunday night visiting the The Blizzard in The Pas while the Flyers are battling the Blizzard on Saturday night.
