Legendary multisport star and local Sporting legend Gerry James has passed away at the age of 89.
James joined the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 1952 as the youngest CFL player at age 17. During his eleven years with Winnipeg, James won four Grey Cups and was named the top Canadian twice
While on the ice, James also played five years of National Hockey League (NHL) hockey with the Toronto Maple Leafs, from 1955 to 1960.
James also suited up for 4 seasons with the Yorkton Terriers of the then Saskatchewan Senior Hockey League before he coached SJHL's Yorkton Terriers, Melville Millionaires, Estevan Bruins and the WHL's Moose Jaw Warriors in the 1970's and 80's.
James would go on to be inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1981, the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame in 1982, the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame in 1994, the Yorkton Sports Hall of Fame in 1998, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers Hall of Fame in 1999 and the Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame in 2022.
