Melville Millionaires; Yorkton Terriers both victorious on SJHL Opening Night


                                           



SJHL:

RED WINGS 1, TERRIERS 6 

An unforgettable opening night unfolded for the newly appointed Yorkton Terriers captain.

 Jaron Desnoyers (pictured above) dazzled with four goals and an assist, leading the hometown Yorkton Terriers to a dominant 6-1 victory over the Weyburn Red Wings.

  Contributions rolled in from William Leonard and Dustin Renas, who each found the back of the net, while Jeff Hammond showcased his playmaking skills with three assists.

 In goal, Ethan Farrow secured the win for the Terriers, making 28 saves.

Meanwhile, the Red Wings' starter, Angelo Zol stopped 26 of 32 shots.

Cyprus Smith-Davis netted the lone goal for the Red Wings, who are set to host the Terriers again this Sunday afternoon for a matinee showdown at 2:00 PM at Crescent Point Place.


MILLIONAIRES 4, BRUINS 2

Ryan Roethke netted a hat trick, with veteran Caden Drury adding one goal and three assists, leading the Melville Millionaires to a 4-2 victory over the Estevan Bruins at Affinity Place. 

 Loic Morin was stellar, stopping 27 of 29 shots to secure his first SJHL win in the Mils' net, while Bruins goalie Benjamin Polhill made 22 saves in the loss. 

 Rorey Eslon and Luke Lawford found the back of the net for the Bruins, who will be in Melville for the second leg of the home-and-home series on Saturday night. 

 Puck drops at 7:00 P.M. at the CN Community Center.

BLIZZARD 6, STAMPEDERS 5- FINAL

The Swan Valley Stampeders faced a tough ending to the start of their 2024/25 MJHL regular season, falling 6-5 to the Northern Manitoba Blizzard on Friday night at Centennial Arena. 

 Keenan McNeil banged home the game-winning goal for the Blizzard with just 17 seconds left in regulation.

 The Stampeders had mounted an impressive comeback, scoring three consecutive goals in the third period from Bennett Muller, Carter Nailen, and Brayden Vopat to even the score. 

 Darren Hunt and Aidan Taylor also netted goals for the Stampeders.

The Blizzard's scoring lineup included Cheechoo Lathlin, Marlen Edwards, Alexander Andre, Thomas Phillips, and Louis Jacob-Beauregard. 

Blizzard goalie Alex Reedy celebrated his first MJHL win with 21 saves on 26 shots.

 On the other side, Elias Giaccari-Dimitriou faced a barrage, allowing 6 goals on 39 shots. 

 The teams will clash again in the rematch on Saturday night in The Pas.
