Mils defeat Terriers 5-3 in New Years Day Classic

The Yorkton Terriers and Melville Millionaires met for 2nd time in less than 48 hours but this time it would be the Mils hitting the win column 5-3 in the teams last meeting of the regular season.

Mils' Christian Magnus would open the scoring and get the lone goal of the 1st when he took a pass in the slot and put it 5 hole on Dawson McAuley to make it 1-0 Mils after 1 period of play.

Just under 5 minutes into period number 2 , the Mils would make it 2-0 and it would be 2 midget AAA callups as local boy Jaden Kreklewich would set up Eric Meyer in the slot for his 1st SJ goal.Jeremy Johnson would get the Terriers on the board as he drove to the net and jammed it past Alex Wakaluk for his 16th goal to make it 2-1. Then just a short time later Kailum Gervaisn took a pass from Yorkton's AAA callup Dakota Odgers and went forehand, backhand and slipped it past Wakaluk for his 7th to tie it up at 2 after 40 minutes.

Mils captain Lucas Froese would give the Mils a 3-2 lead with his 11th goal of the season. Then Daniel Orsborne would get the eventual game winner from Daniel Orsborne with 9:04 remaining to give the Mils a 4-2. 20 year old Nathan Boyer would make it 5-2 with his 19th goal of the season. Austin Bourhis would make it 5-3 with his 4th but thats all the scoring that would happen.

Mils' Alex Wakaluk was outstanding once again stopping 36 of 39 shots while Dawson McAuley who was solid as well stopped 24 shots but was tagged with the loss

The game also included 2 scraps between Tyler Bird/ Patrick Martens and Jeremy Johnson/Kyle Scaber.

The Terriers will return to action on Friday when they host the Humboldt Broncos pregame 7:20, play by play at 7:30 on GX94 while the Mils will begin a weekend home and home against the Estevan Bruins Friday in Estevan
