Wolverines get streak snapped as they fall in Virden

The Wayway Wolverines had their 3 game winning streak snapped as they fell 3-2 to the Virden Oil Capitals on Sunday night.

Ryan Leaf took a pass in the slot and made no mistake past Wolves' goalie Brenden Fiebelkorn to give the Oil Caps a 1-0 after 1 period.

The 2nd would start the same as the first but this time only 21 seconds into the period as Ryan Leaf would get his 2nd of the night to make 2-0 Oil Caps. Leaf would get his hat trick 9:57 into the 2nd period on the powerplay and Virden would have a 3 goal lead. But before the end of the period, Wolves dman David Haaf would get his 10th of the year on the powerplay and it was 3-1 Virden after 40 minutes of play.

In the 3rd Brett Lafond would get the lone goal of the frame as his long shot beat Oil Caps goalie Kyler Beckett over the right shoulder to cut the lead to 3-2, but that's where it would stand as the Oil Caps beat the Wolverines to move into a 4th place tie in the Sherwood division with Wayway at 34 points (Wayway hold tie breaker)

Kyler Beckett stopped 28 saves for the victory while Wolves goalie Brenden Fiebelkorn would get his own 2 game personal winning streak snapped stopping 32 saves in a losing cause.

The Wolverines will be in action again on Thursday when they host the Dauphin Kings 7:30 Wayway Arena Complex.
