Terriers fall to the Broncos in a shootout

After a little sluggish start to opening half of the 1st period, play started to pick up and the Humboldt Broncos would get the last laugh as they defeated the Yorkton Terriers (25-9-0-2) 4-3 in a shootout on Friday night.

Adam Zbitniff opened the scoring in the game for the Broncos for his 4th of the season and that made it a 1-0 Humboldt lead after 1 period of play.

Patrick Martens would pull the game even though on the powerplay with 18th goal of the season but less than 4 minutes later Justin Lund would put the Broncos ahead with his 1st goal of the season and it was 2-1 Broncos. Humboldt would make it 3-1 when big Adam Antkowiak was able to put one past Kale Thomson for his 10th goal of the season. But with 1:01 remaining in the 2nd, 20 year veteran forward Zak Majkowski would put the Terriers within a goal with his 10th and it was 3-2 for the visiting side after 40 minutes of play. With 17 seconds remaining it would also produce a melee between the two sides with all 10 members on the ice receiving some sort of penatlies. and it also included 2 fights , Daylan Gatzke and David Stumborg, also between Austin Bourhis and Joey Davies.

The lone goal of the 3rd would go to the Terriers as Austin Bourhis would get goal number 5 on the season as he went five hole on goalie Matt Hrynkiw which he would have like to have back and it was 3-3 tie after 60 minutes of regulation play.

Overtime which the Terriers won in on Sunday night against Melville, would produce some very good chances for both sides but both goalie stood tall.

Then in the shootout, the first 7 shooters between both sides would miss until Broncos captain Kam Ballis beat Thomson shortside to give the Broncos a 4-3 shootout victory.

Kale Thomson got the start in net and took the shootout loss stopping 33 of 36 shots while Matth Hrynkiw got the win making 41 saves.

  1. Open plea to Don Chesney....please don't let us go into the playoffs with this goaltending tandem. They are proving over and over again that they can't do it in the big games against the good teams! All 3 goals again last night were suspect...although Thompson did look good in the 3rd and the shootout. However, both goalies are continuing to be outplayed by their opposition.

  5. Benny heard a rumor around Yorkton that we are possibly getting a 20 year old WHl release. Have you heard anything?

  6. I heard that too....i guess we'll know soon enough. If Benny has the inside scoop he won't comment because i'm sure he wants the trust of the teams he covers.
