Terriers fall to Surrey; will play in 3 vs 4 Game

The Yorkton Terriers finished off their round robin on the wrong foot falling 3-1 to the Surrey Eagles to end the round robin portion of the Western Canada Cup with a 2-2 record.

The Eagles got off to a quick start just 2:22 into the opening period when Brady Shaw would get his 3rd of the tournament ripping a wrister past the glove of Dawson MacAuley to make it a early Surrey 1-0 lead.

The Terriers despite being down early in the game they had some very good scoring chances but still trailed the Eagles 1-0. They would trail until middle part of the 2nd period when Nathan Murray would corral a loose puck and put it top shelf on Michael Santaguida for his 2nd goal in as many games to make it a 1-1 hockey game. But just 2:08 later, Shaw would get his 2nd of the night and 4th of the tournament to give the Eagles once again a 1 goal lead this time 2-1 after 40 minutes of play.

The Terriers would try and try for the tying but just couldn't get anything passed the Eagles goaltender . Then Surrey would get their first two goal lead of the game when Adam Tambellini would get the puck in the slot and put it five-hole on MacAuley for his 3rd of the tournament to make it a 3-1 Surrey lead and that's how the hockey game would end.

Eagles' goalie Michael Santaguida stopped 35 of 36 shots for the win, while Dawson MacAuley stopped 22 shots in a losing cause.

The Terriers will be the 3rd seed in the playoffs and will take on the winner of tonight's Steinbach/ Nanaimo matchup in the 3 vs 4 page playoff game on Saturday afternoon 2:50/3:00 Sask Time on GX94 while a Surrey win pushes them into the 1 vs 2 page playoff game against the Brooks Bandits on Saturday night with the winner of that getting the first berth into the RBC Cup.

  1. well the terriers could have been in the 1 and 2 game.if they didn't fall asleep in there last two games.i guess there goalie is tiring out and the rest of the team is just running out of gas up there.i guess they better pull up there socks and play a lot better then they did in there last 2 games

  3. Pretty sure they outshot Surrey the entire game and dominated them in the third period.

Santaguida is a solid goaltender and is the main reason Surrey escaped with a win in the last game (in my humble opinion. - Randy

  4. That pull up their socks comment seems to be very familiar. No matter how far a team makes it, it still isn't good enough for some. I guess a team that loses in the 7th game of the stanley cup, this anonymous poster would tell that team to pull of their socks. I just don't understand how some people can be so negative all the time.

  5. Not sure why you sit Oliver and Gervais. They say they are a grind-em out team, then sit 2 great grinders. Give your head a shake trent.

  7. Have confidence in the boys! They will win today and be playing Brooks tomorrow to advance to the RBC.

  8. .....I am unsure why it is that some people are so happy with just being close. Santaguida is a smaller goalie so you get traffic in front of him, pump 45-40 shots on him and the Terriers will win. Hockey is a game of mistakes and the team that commits the fewest will win. I've seen 2-2 teams win the Memorial Cup. Good basic hockey, discipline and few mistakes.
