Terriers drop a 8-2 decision on home ice to Weyburn; Wolverines lose in Neepawa

The Yorkton Terriers in a big Viterra division game came out with a disappointing effort on home ice as they dropped a 8-2 decision to the visiting the Weyburn Red Wings.

The damage started for the Red Wings at the 3:28 of the opening period when Brandon Volpe would bang home his 1st SJHL goal shorthanded to give the Wings an early 1-0 lead. They would add to the lead 5:14 later as Stephen Ryan would hammer home his 8th of the year to make it a 2 goal lead. Before the 1st buzzer could sound, the Wings would add one more as Jacob Jeske would add his 1st of 2 on the night to give the visitors a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes.

It would be all Red Wings in the 2nd period as well, as they would score the first 4 goals of the middle frame off the sticks of Aiden Teilborg, Jeske, Jake MacLachlan, and Alex Bechtold to give Weyburn a commanding 7-0 lead. The Terriers would get on the board at the 10:43 mark as Kurt Johnas would get his 9th to get them on the board at 7-1. Matt Eng would add another for the Wings late, to give them a 8-1 advantage after 2 periods.

In the 3rd, the play would even up a bit and the Terriers would get the lone goal of the period as Jordan Evans would extend his goal streak to 3 games as he slipped one past the Wings goalie to make it a final of 8-2 Weyburn over Yorkton.

Both Terrier goaltenders saw action in the game as Matt Kustra made 27 saves on 31 shots, while Dawson MacAuley also let in 4 goals, but on 15 shots. Red Wings' netminder Jack Burgart made 32 saves for the win.

With the win the Red Wings moved into a 1st place tie in the Viterra division standings with the Melville Millionaires who the Wings will take on Friday.

The Terriers will continue their busy week on Friday as well when they entertain the Humboldt Broncos at 7:30 FAA.
