Thompson; Dibella advancing Hockey Careers

Another member of the RBC Cup National Champion Yorkton Terriers has committed to the University ranks.

21 year old Bredenbury product Tayler Thompson will be continuing his hockey career with University of Saskatchewan Huskies of the CIS.

This past season, Thompson's final year of Junior hockey he compiled 23 goals and 38 assists for 61 points in 52 regular season games, good for 4th in league scoring. He then added 2 goals and 10 points in the Canalta Cup playoffs and also had 4 points in 6 games in the 2014 RBC Cup to help lead the Terriers to their first ever national championship.

In his SJHL career, Thompson notched 43 goals, 72 assists in 130 games all with the Terriers. Thompson also played 66 WHL games with the Prince George Cougars recording 11 points.

The Melville Millionaires are also pleased to announced that one of their graduating players will be advancing his hockey career at the collegiate level.

21 year old Adam Dibella will be a member of the Augustana Vikings of the ACAC in Camrose, Alberta.

In 153 career regular season games in 3 years with the Mils, the Nelson BC product compiled 7 goals and 21 assists for 28 points and 277 minutes in penalties.

SJHL AGM 2014 wrapped up over the weekend in Nipawin

The SJHL’s AGM was held once again in Nipawin at the Northern Green Resorts.

Scheduling was completed on Thursday June 5th. (official schedule will be completed and sent out in early July)

There will be the 3 Divisions, Sher-wood, Kramer and the Viterra Divisions. The teams in each of those Divisions remain the same as last year.

The teams will be playing a 56 game schedule the same as last year.
The playoff structure remains the same as last year.  Teams finishing 11 and 12 will be eliminated from further play. Teams 7-8-9 and 10 will play in the Best of 5 WILD CARD series.

Although some teams had a decline in their individual attendance figures, overall attendance for the regular season was up 6%. Playoff attendance was up over 60%, this attributes to different teams making the playoffs and venues with a larger seating capacity having longer runs in the playoffs.

The Governors voted in favor of having at least 65% of all regular season games using the 4 man system. All playoff games will be use the 4 man system.

The Governors agreed upon the process in determining which team would host the Crescent Point Energy Western Canada Cup in the spring of 2016. 3 teams have expressed interest in submitting a bid to host; Estevan Bruins, Melville Millionaires and the Yorkton Terriers.

Bids will be submitted early in the fall and the 9 remaining teams will determine which team will host the 2016 Crescent Point Energy Western Canada Cup.

The LaRonge Ice Wolves advised the Governors that they are determining the feasibility of playing their Home games out of the Jonas Robert Memorial Community Center (JRMCC) located on the Lac La Ronge Indian Band’s property. In some documents it is referred as a re-location, but it is simply a changing of the venues to play home games. (there was no vote as the Governors were told the process is still determining the feasibility of the change of venues).

The Governors and Coaches of all 12 teams of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League wanted to express their THANKS for the commitment of all the VOLUNTEERS that make the SJHL the league that it is.

The Coaches and Governors are looking forward to the 14-15 season and the ROAD TO THE CANALTA CUP.

Evetts shines as Mils win 3rd straight in a rain-shortened affair over the Cardinals

After the defending WMBL champion Melville Millionaires started 0-3, they have won their last 3 games which included a 4-0 win over their Highway 10 rivals, the Yorkton Cardinals in a game cut short by rain that only lasted 5 innings.

The teams would exchange chances in the first 3 innings of the ball game with the Mils having the better chances, but they left 2 runners in scoring position in 2 of those first 3 innings.

It was until the 4th inning til the Mils broke out as Jake Collins (single), and Garrett Gaines (Hit By pitch) would both get on with no body out, then Andi Jacobi would move them to 2nd and 3rd respectively on a successful sacrifice bunt before Dalton Lovell, and Tyler Enns would rip RBI singles, Nick Walker would get his own RBI on a sac fly and then the Mils would get their final run of the ball game as Matt Mastantuono would lay down a successful squeeze play to give the Mils a 4-0 lead.

The two teams would get about another full inning in and that's all before the skies would open and rain would fall to wash away the rest of this 3rd meeting between these two teams.

Blake Evetts (pictured above) was sensational on the mound going 5 shutout innings, allowing just 2 hits and striking out 7 to improve to 1-1 on the WMBL season, while Clay Rideout would also go 5 innings giving up 4 runs (3 earned)  on 7 hits, walking 2 and striking out 3 to drop his record to 1-1.

The Mils will have the day off Monday before visiting the Regina Red Sox at Currie Field, while for the Cards they will have a couple of days off before travelling down the Highway 10 to Melville for the 4th of 10 meetings between these two team 7:05 First pitch from Pirie Field.

 Swan Valley have traded the rights to 20 year old dman Landon Cross to the Steinbach Pistons for 20 year old forward Nicolas Kobelka. (pictured above)

Kobelka, a Beausejour, MB product, a former number one overall pick in the MJHL bantam draft had 17 goals and 23 assists for 40 points in 49 games with the Pistons this past season.

Cross, who is a Brandon native had 9 points in 54 games with the WHL's Kootenay Ice.

Lishchynsky becomes a Bomber to Complete Boehm Trade

The Yorkton Terriers acquired 19 year old forward Brett Boehm this past December from the Flin Flon Bombers for 18 year old Dalton Menke and futures.

The futures going to Flin Flon have been announced and the newest Bomber is Saskatoon product and 18 year old dman Tanner Lishchynsky.

 Lishchynsky who was returned back to the Terriers from the WHL's Prince George Cougars at the trade deadline had 11 assists in 20 regular season game with the Terriers, before chipping chipping with 4 more points in the post season and he scored 3 big goals in the 2014 RBC Cup.

Stamps' Morden Commits To Brock University (CIS)

The Swan Valley Stampeders are pleased to announce the commitment of 1993 born defenceman Evan Morden to the Brock University Badgers.

Evan joins the Badgers following a Junior career in the WHL and Manitoba Junior Hockey League, captaining his home town Stampeders this past season. The 6-3, 205 lb defenceman will attend the Goodman School of Business, at Brock University.

“We are extremely happy to announce Evan’s commitment to Brock University, coach Murray Nystrom’s recruiting trip to the Valley, has paid dividends for both Evan and Brock U, he was high on Murray’s list of priority recruits”, said Swan Valley Head Coach / GM Erik Petersen.

“Mords is a solid person and player, who provided us with leadership, while playing quality two-way hockey of high caliber, and eating tons of minutes on our back end last season.”

The Stampeders wish to thank Evan for his contributions in the Valley, and wish him the best of luck in the future.

During his 107 game career in the MJHL, as a 16 and 20 year old, Morden racked up 39 points. While playing 170 games with the Everett Silvertips and Prince Albert Raiders in the WHL, Evan had 23 points over 3 seasons.

Morden was also the recipient of the Stampeders best Defenceman and team MVP last season.
