Terriers double North Stars to capture Sherwood Division Pennant

The Yorkton Terriers got down early but scored 3 goals in the 2nd period as they defeated the Battleford North Stars 4-2 to capture the SJHL's Sherwood Division Pennant Title.

The Battleford North Stars opened the scoring in the first period as Kyle Hall would get a powerplay goal his 19th to make 1-0 Stars after 1.

But the Terriers would even the score at 1 half way thru the 2nd as Jeremy Johnson would put home his 28th goal of the season to make it 1-1. Just under 3 minutes later the Terriers would get the first lead of the hockey game as Devin McMullen would pounce on the loose puck and go in alone on Casey Parker and put it top shelf to make 2-1. Then 1:22 later, Braeden Johnson would even it back up at 2. Kailum Gervais would though get the eventual game winning goal with 1:01 left in the 2nd his 13th to give the Terriers a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes.

Great chances both ways in the 3rd period, but Tayler Thompson would get the lone goal with 12 seconds left in the empty net to make it a 4-2 final.

Dawson McAuley rebounded from Friday night and stopped 21 shots for the victory while Stars goalie Casey Parker stopped 26 shots in a losing cause.

With the win, the Terriers record at home was a very, very impressive 25-1-0-1 on the season with the only regulation loss to the Estevan Bruins.

The Terriers only needed 1 point to capture the Sherwood division pennant but got 2 and now will meet either Kindersley or Estevan in the Sherwood division semi-final, while Melville will take on the Notre Dame Hounds in the other semi-final which should start around the March 8th weekend or so.
