Wolverines clinch Playoff Spot with win over Virden

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines won their 6th straight game and have clinched a spot in the MJHL Playoffs for 2012/13 season with a big 3-1 victory over the Virden Oil Capitals on home ice.

The teams exchanged some very good chances in the opening period but the score remained scoreless after 1 period of play.

Brett Pinkertoon would open the scoring for the Wolverines his 24th goal of the season,  to make it 1-0 Wayway after 40 minutes of play.

But Corey Haverstick would rip a wrist shot past Cory Simons to tie it up at 1 apiece. Russell Turner would bang home the game winner past Oil Caps goalie Kyler Beckett to make it 2-1, while Brennan Luschinski would ice it into the empty net to give the Wolverines a 3-1 home victory.

Cory Simons stopped 33 shots for the victory while Kyler Beckett who was very good for the Oil Caps stopping 40 shots but was tagged with the loss.

With the win, the Wolverines clinch a playoff spot and will probably likely play the red hot Dauphin Kings in round 1.
