Mils; Cardinals both drop 2019 Western Canada Baseball League openers

Evan Moore had 2 hits but then was picked off on third with the bases loaded to end the game as the Melville Millionaires' comeback fell a little short as they opened up their 2019 WCBL campaign with a 6-5 road loss to the Moose Jaw Miller Express.

Jake Green and Marquis Irving hit a double for Melville who nearly came back from a 6 run deficit.

Mils starter Ryan Moormeyer was tagged with the loss after allowing 2 runs on 1 hits, walking 5 and striking out 6 over 3 innings of work.


Meanwhile in Regina,

The Yorkton Cardinals got 4 hits from Calgary's Matthew Korman but it wasn't enough as the Regina Red Sox cruised to a 8-1 home victory at Currie Field.

Erik Crossman led the way for the Red Sox with 3 hits.


The next action for the Mils and Cardinals will be tonight (Thurs) when they meet for the first Highway 10 battle of the season at Pirie Field in Melville with first pitch at 7:05PM.

The two teams then play the back-end of the home and home on Friday in Yorkton.
