The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League has officially announced the cancellation of the 2020/21 season.
Based on the submissions before them and the state of COVID-19 in province, Saskatchewan government and health rejected the league's proposal to return to play.
"Yea it's been a tough year and its obviously disappointing, I didn't think it would get to this point honestly, I thought we'd return to play at some point but that just didn't happen and now we got to shift our focus to make sure we are ready to hopefully play a full season starting in the fall," Mils Head Coach/GM Mike Rooney said in a phone interview with GX94.
The SJHL season had been put on-hold since Nov. 23, 2020, at which point the league released a statement of their intent to return in the New Year.
The 2019-20 postseason was also cancelled March 12, 2020, due to concerns surrounding the beginning of the pandemic.
The SJHL will now turn its focus to the start of the 2021/22 campaign in
September, with a goal of a complete season with the crowning of a league
champion.
