Feb. 10th Local MJHL/SJHL Recap

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines won their 2nd straight on Friday night beating the the Swan Valley Stampeders 4-3 in overtime at the Centennial Arena in Swan River.

The Stampeders struck first with 5:43 left in the 1st as Justin Keck finished off a nice passing play and then went five-hole on Wolverine goalie Tresor Wotton for his 21st of the season to make it 1-0.

Waywayseecappo tied it up just over 4 minutes later as Aidas Sotas capitalized on a Stampeder turnover and went top-shelf on SV goalie Kobe Grant for his 2nd of the year to even it up at 1-1 through 20 minutes.

In the 2nd just 34 seconds into the period Cole Carlson regained the Wolverines one goal lead at 2-1, tapping home a powerplay goal.

Swan Valley evened it up in the late stages of the middle frame as defencemab Adam Rajsigl was able to tuck it home past Wotton for his 8th. 

But Carson Baptiste just over 2 minutes later to regain the visitors a 3-2 lead after 2 periods.

In the 3rd, the Stampeders got the equalizer with 6:23 left in regulation as Steven Arp was Johnny-On-The-Spot and tapped it home to make it 3-3.

After a back and forth start to overtime, it was Nolan Grier going down the right wing wall and he snapped it short side on Kobe Grant to gain his team the valuable extra point.

Tresor Wotton made 27 saves on 30 shots to earn his league-leading 19th win of the season in the Wolverine goal, while Stamps goalie Kobe Grant turned aside also 27 shots in the loss.

The two teams will once again meet on Saturday in Waywayseecappo.

The Yorkton Terriers dropped their 2nd straight on home ice, a 4-2 decision to the Melfort Mustangs.

Cameron Emigh scored the game winner for the Mustangs in the 2nd period while Kevin Minnoch, Ryan Duguay and Wyatt Cook also scord.

Brett Butz and Cade Kennedy replied for the Terriers, who got 30 saves from Caleb Allen in the loss.

James Venne stopped 24 of 26 shots in the loss.

The Mustangs and Terriers will meet from the Northern Lights Palace in Melfort on Saturday night.
