Feb. 15th Local SJHL/MJHL Recap

The Melville Millionaires snapped their 11 game winless skid against Estevan with a 3-2 overtime win over the Bruins on Wednesday night.

The Bruins got on the board first just 3:46 in as they caused a turnover deep in the Mils zone and Tim Tychonick found Dan O'Neill in front and he slipped it over top the right shoulder of Ethan Rau for his 1st as Bruin to make it 1-0.

Sam McPeak added to the home teams lead just under 4 minutes later beating Rau short-side for his 2nd of the season making it 2-0.

But the Moneymen responded just a short time later as Carter McKay finished off a nice feed from Jaxon Martens  (pictured above) for his 11th of the year to cut the Mils deficit in half through 1 period.

After a scoreless 2nd, the Mils got the only goal of third and it came on the powerplay with 4:48 left as Martens took a nice feed on the top right circle from Colby Ball and hammered in his team-leading 19th to make it 2-2 to force overtime.

In the extra period, the Warman product added his 2nd of the night as he made a nifty play off a draw and then went far post and in by Jackson Miller to give the visitors the extra point.

Melville G Ethan Rau made 28 saves on 30 shots to earn his 1st SJHL win, while Bruins netminder Jackson turned aside 28 shots in the OTL.

The Millionaires return to action on Friday night on home ice starting a home and home series with the Melfort Mustangs at the HCUC.
