Wolverines hand Stampeders convincing home-ice loss on Wednesday night

WOLVERINES 6, STAMPEDERS 2

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines improved to 2-1 on the young MJHL season after a 6-2 victory over the Swan Valley Stampeders on Wednesday night.

The Wolverines got off to a good start as just 4:45 in, Sean Williams took a nice feed from Thomas Kaufield and made no mistake to make it 1-0.

But the Stamps responded just 10 minutes later as after a scramble in front it would be Josh Danis sneaking one through Marek Andres for his 1st of the season to knot it up.

Jesiah Bennett regained the lead for Wayway just over 30 seconds later to give the road team a 2-1 lead after 1 period.

The Wolverines took control of the game in the 2nd as they scored three unanswered off the sticks of Neo Kiemeney, Aiden Herring and Jack Clarke to increase their lead to 3 after 40.

The two teams exchanged goals in the 3rd as the visitors made it 6-1 on an early powerplay goal from Luke McCarthy, wile Stamps 2022 1st round pick Owen Warnick ripped one past Andres for his 1st MJHL goal to wrap up the scoring.

Wolverine G Marek Andres turned aside 27 of 29 shots to earn his 2nd victory of the season, while Liam VanDerKooi made his Stamps' debut & allowed 5 goals on 28 shots before being relieved for Elias Giaccari-Dimitriou, who stopped 15/16 in relief.

The Stampeders look to even their record at 2-2 on Friday night hosting the Niverville Nighthawks, while Waywayseecappo looks for back to back wins on Saturday entertaining the Virden Oil Capitals.
