Millionaires close off 2023 home schedule with loss to Melfort

The Melfort Mustangs captured their 6th straight win on Tuesday night doubling up the Melville Millionaires 4-2 at the CN Community Center.

The Mustangs got on the board first as Aidyn Hutchinson finished off a nice passing play for his 12th of the season just 4:15 in to make it 1-0 for the visitors.

Just 3:42 later, Flynn Maxcy would let the Teddy Bears fly for the Moneymen as he deflected a Boston Harkness point-shot  through the five-hole of James Venne for his 9th to tie things up 1-1.

But just 40 seconds later, the Mustangs regained their one goal lead as Chase Friedt-Mohr's one-timer on a feed across from Leith Olafson squeaked through Will Dyke for his 11th.

Euan Morrison brought the Millionaires back even though before the 1st frame ended as he tapped home a loose puck in the crease for his 6th to make it even through 20.

After a scoreless 2nd period, the Mustangs got the eventual game winner 4:09 into the 3rd as a pair AP's would connect as Jaxon Kehrig used a good fore-check and then found his Tisdale Trojan teammate Tristan Ziola in front and he made no mistake for his 1st SJHL goal to give the Mustangs lead, before Zac Somers added insurance in the final seconds to wrap up the scoring.

Mustangs' netminder James Venne made 25 saves on 27 shots to earn his 17th victory of the campaign, while William Dyke turned aside 23 shots in the loss.

The Millionaires' are now on their holiday break and they'll return to action on Dec. 30th visiting the Yorkton Terriers while the Mustangs wrap up their pre-break schedule with a home & home with Nipawin, starting on Friday night at the Northern Lights Palace. |
