The Swan Valley Stampeders dropped their third straight on Friday night, falling 5-2 on the road to the Virden Oil Capitals.
The Oil Caps struck first just 8:58 into the 1st on the powerplay as Naton Miller took a nice feed in the slot and beat Gage Stewart for his 10th of the season to make it 1-0.
Stampeders responded by quickly though as Trey Sauder led a short-handed rush & sent a nifty pas across to Griffin Ayotte and he tucked it by Liam Bechtold for his 6th of the year to knot things up.
But it was Miller again that helped the home team regain their lead as he beat Stewart five-hole to make it 2-1 Oil Caps through 20 minutes.
After a scoreless 2nd frame, Alex Walicki pulled the Stampeders even just 4:47 into the third period deflecting Truman Boetteger point shot for his 10th to make it 2-2.
But the Oil Caps powerplay finally woke up as they scored a pair of powerplay goals just 1:11 apart off the sticks of Trevor Hunt and Josh Lehto to make it a 4-2 game before AP Tyson Draper added an empty-netter in the final minute.
Liam Bechthold made 27 saves on 29 shots to earn a win in his Virden debut, while Stamps' G Gage Stewart turned aside 50 of 54 shots in the loss.
The Stampeders return to action on Saturday hosting the Neepawa Titans to wrap up their pre- Holiday break schedule.
