Terriers notch a point but fall to Humboldt in Overtime
It wasn't the two points that they would've wanted but the Yorkton Terriers had to come back on 2 seperate occasions to earn a single point as they dropped a 4-3 decision in overtime to the Humboldt Broncos.
The Broncos didn't take long to open the scoring as Gage Joel would go in on a 2 on 1 and he would elect to shoot and he would go five hole on Dawson MacAuley (pictured above) to make it a 1-0 Humboldt lead. They would add to their lead with just over 2 minutes to go in the opening frame as Austin Duzan on a weird one that bounce in off him in front and then squeak by the Terrier netminder for his 5th to give the Broncos an early 2-0 after 1.
In the 2nd, it would be the Terriers turn to strike early, as just over a couple minutes in on the PP, Zack Zadorozniak would snipe home a beauty bar down to cut the Terriers deficit in half at 2-1. Then just 3:39 later, Dallas Rossiter's point shot would have some eyes and hit mesh for his 3rd marker of the campaign to pull the Terriers at 2-2. A short time later, the home team would regain their 1 goal lead as Duzan would deflect home his 2nd of the night to make 3-2 Humboldt after 40 minutes of play.
Humboldt would come on early in the 3rd as well, as they would get a couple of early power plays but the Terriers penalty kill stood tall, led by any teams best penalty killer, their goaltender as Dawson MacAuley was very good all night, especially off a couple keys saves off Logan Schatz to keep his team in the game. Just a short time later after the Terriers killed off a lengthy 5 on 3, Adam Santoro would grab a loose puck and sneak behind the Bronco D and go in alone and slip it five-hole on Jack Romaniuk to tie things up at 3-3 to force overtime.
In the overtime period, it would once again be some quick strike offence as Matt Kenney would make a very nice move around the Terrier defence and then go top shelf over the glove of MacAuley to give his team the extra point and a 4-3 Humboldt win.
Jack Romaniuk turned aside 30 shot for the victory while the Terriers best player on this night, Dawson MacAuley made 34 saves in the overtime loss.
The Terriers will look to snap their 3 game slide on Wednesday night when they visit the Notre Dame Hounds at 8PM from the Duncan McNeil Arena in Wilcox.
Benny's Game Notes--> Paul Savage returned to the Terrier lineup after been missing since November, and was very solid and poised on the back end, wasn't afraid to jump in rush.
--> With the Terriers a little shorthanded tonight, usual Forward Dylan Johnson played his first Junior game on the backend and you can tell he was a little rusty, but DJ settled in and logged some solid minutes.
--> Terriers were without 2 veteran players as Josh Ellis & Kailum Gervais didn't play due to lower body injuries
-- Terriers are now 1-3 against the Broncos this season and their next meeting is Jan 31st back in Humboldt.
