Swedlo's 4 points leads Wayway over Neepawa 5-1
The Waywayseecappo Wolverines have now won 6 of their last 9 games after a 5-1 victory on home ice over the last place Wayway Wolverines on Friday night,
In the first period, both teams got off to a slow start in the opening frame but as the period went on the teams got their legs under them and it would be Neepawa get the first fortunate break as Kyle McDonald went wide on a Wolverine defenceman and then just sent it on net and it went off a skate of a Wayway player and past goalie Mitch Wiebe for his 8th goal of the season to give the visitors a 1-0 lead after 1 period.
The middle frame is where the Wayway Wolverines would start to take over the game as just 3:21 in, Robert Briem would deflect home his team tying 18th goal of the year, to tie things up at 1-1. Before the 2nd buzzer could go the Wolverines would take their first lead of the evening as captain Alex Keena would take a nice feed from Johl Swedlo (pictured above) shorthanded and slip it by Alex Henry for his 7th to give the home team a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes.
The Wolverines 4th ranked power play would take over in the 3rd as they would add 3 more goals all on the man advantage off the sticks of Keena, Johl Swedlo ( Swedlo also added 3 asssits on the night) and Montana Tanner to give the Wolverines their 18th victory of the season a 5-1 win over Neepawa.

Mils' Martin named SJHL Rookie of the Week
SJHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:
Trevor Martin, Melville Millionaires
1996 G Trevor Martin (Ardrossan AB) will get the lion’s share of the work for the Mils down the stretch and he’s proving to be quite a force to opposing shooters. Martin went 1-0-0-and-1 with a 1.44-GAA and .952-SPCT as the Mils lost 2-1 in a shootout to Weyburn on Friday before rebounding to defeat Notre Dame on Saturday. Remarkably, Martin’s weekly numbers aren’t as good as his regular season ones. He’s 5-3-and-2, 1.19, .960, 2-shutouts.

After a convincing 6-0 win on Tuesday night, the Swan Valley Stampeders dropped a 4-1 decision on home ice on Friday night to the Winkler Flyers.

Short time later, Lawson McDonald would gobble up on a rebound in front after Stamps goalie Graham Hunt made some good saves for his 9th of the year to put Winkler up 2. The Flyers weren't done there as former Stampeder Bryce Enns would snipe one top shelf on Hunt for his 9th to give them a 3-0 lead after 40 minutes.
In the 3rd, the Flyers would increase their lead to 4 with the 2 man aFdvantage as McDonald would take a nice feed in front and snap home his 2nd of the night and 10th of the season to push the Flyers up 4-zip. The Stampeders would get on the board before the final buzzer as Linden McCorrister (pictured above) would slip it five-hole on Flyers netminder Dasan Sydora to put the Stamps on the board but that's as close as they would get as Winkler Flyers won their 25th game a 4-1 win over Swan Valley, and their 3rd straight win over the Stamps.
Jagger Thomas, who was dealt from Swan to Winkler just before the Trade Deadline had 2 assists in his return to Swan River as a Flyer.

Wolverines; Mils both win on home ice on Friday Night
The Wayway Wolverines got their 3rd victory in 4 games tonight as they fended off the Selkirk Steelers 3-2 on home ice.
It was once again a good start to the opening period for the Wayway Wolverines as they got an early 5 on 3 PP and they would convert as George Spilchal (pictured above) would walk off the half boards and snap it top shelf on Teagan Sacher for his 16th goal of the season to give the Wolverines an early 1-0 leaf after 1 period.
The score would stay like that until just over half way through the middle frame when Robert Briem would walk in and fire one post and in for his 16th snipe of the season to make it a 2 goal Wolverine lead. But just 1:16 later the Steelers would cut that lead in half as Jesse Miller would step across the Wolverine blueline and hammer home his 6th of the year to make it a 2-1 Wayway lead. That one goal deficit wouldn't last long as Spilchal would go top shelf bar down once again on the PP for his 2nd goal of the night and team leading 17th of the season to once again make it a 2 goal lead for the Wolverines this time at 3-1 after 40 minutes.
But the Steelers wouldn't go down without a little bit of a fight as Dallas Starodub would cut Selkirk within 1 at 3-2 just 3:08 into the 3rd short handed but that's as close as they would get as the Wolverines held on for a 3-2 victory, their 15th of the season.
Mitch Wiebe was once again his usual solid self and stopped 27 shots for the Wayway in goal for the win, while Teegan Sacher made 31 saves in a losing cause.

Mils lose 2nd straight on road in Melfort
The Melville Millionaires go 0-2 on their 2 game road trip as they fall on Wednesday 6-0 to the Melfort Mustangs .
In the first, the Mustangs would get an early powerplay and they would make no mistake on it as Justin Boyer would pick up some garbage in front of Josh Bykowski and slip home his 16th goal of the season to give Melfort a 1-0 lead. Then a short time later, the Mils would get a man advantage of their own but it would be the Mustangs who would use that to their advantage as Moosomin product Dakota Boutin would slip behind the Mils D and then go in alone and put it five-hole on Bykowski for his 11th of the year to give the Mustangs a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.
The middle frame would be a much more even period with both teams have glorious opportunities. Mils had a couple great chances to get on the board with the best one being Keegan Milligan who rang it off the iron in his 1st game as a Millionaire. Meantime the Mustangs also had some great looks to add to their lead in their best one being Travis Mayan who beat the Mils netminder but then rang it off the crossbar. So no scoring in the 2nd, to have the score remain at 2-0
It would be all Mustangs in third period as they would get 4 total goals including 3 on the PP as Adam Fauchoux, David Heath, Landon Robin, and Cole Hrysky would score for the Mustangs to give them a 6-0 home victory.
Richard Palmer stopped 22 shots for the shutout against his former team while Josh Bykowski made 33 saves in the loss.
The Mils return to action on Friday when they host the Estevan Bruins at 7:30 HCUC.

Mils start roady with 2-1 loss in Nipawin
The Melville Millionaires for most of the night were the better team but just didn't get the result they wanted as they dropped a 2-1 decision to the Nipawin Hawks.
The Hawks would take advantage of some bus legs from the Millionaires early on and control much of the opening half of the period and they would be rewarded for the effort on a weird one as one would bounce in off Blake Fournier in front on the powerplay to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead after 1.
Shortly in the 2nd, the Mils would even things up with a powerplay of their own as Lane Harbor would hammer home his 14th goal of the season to tie things up at 1-1. But just 2:12 later, the Hawks would regain their 1 goal lead as Keagan Kjargard would knock home his 3rd to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead.
Despite having 3 of their 9 powerplays in the 3rd period but they were not able to convert as the Hawks held on for a 2-1 win, their 23rd of the season.
Logan Flodell stopped 31 shots for the win, while Trevor Martin was solid in a losing cause making 37 saves.
---------------
While in the MJHL,

Terriers notch a point but fall to Humboldt in Overtime
It wasn't the two points that they would've wanted but the Yorkton Terriers had to come back on 2 seperate occasions to earn a single point as they dropped a 4-3 decision in overtime to the Humboldt Broncos.
The Broncos didn't take long to open the scoring as Gage Joel would go in on a 2 on 1 and he would elect to shoot and he would go five hole on Dawson MacAuley (pictured above) to make it a 1-0 Humboldt lead. They would add to their lead with just over 2 minutes to go in the opening frame as Austin Duzan on a weird one that bounce in off him in front and then squeak by the Terrier netminder for his 5th to give the Broncos an early 2-0 after 1.
In the 2nd, it would be the Terriers turn to strike early, as just over a couple minutes in on the PP, Zack Zadorozniak would snipe home a beauty bar down to cut the Terriers deficit in half at 2-1. Then just 3:39 later, Dallas Rossiter's point shot would have some eyes and hit mesh for his 3rd marker of the campaign to pull the Terriers at 2-2. A short time later, the home team would regain their 1 goal lead as Duzan would deflect home his 2nd of the night to make 3-2 Humboldt after 40 minutes of play.
Humboldt would come on early in the 3rd as well, as they would get a couple of early power plays but the Terriers penalty kill stood tall, led by any teams best penalty killer, their goaltender as Dawson MacAuley was very good all night, especially off a couple keys saves off Logan Schatz to keep his team in the game. Just a short time later after the Terriers killed off a lengthy 5 on 3, Adam Santoro would grab a loose puck and sneak behind the Bronco D and go in alone and slip it five-hole on Jack Romaniuk to tie things up at 3-3 to force overtime.
In the overtime period, it would once again be some quick strike offence as Matt Kenney would make a very nice move around the Terrier defence and then go top shelf over the glove of MacAuley to give his team the extra point and a 4-3 Humboldt win.
Jack Romaniuk turned aside 30 shot for the victory while the Terriers best player on this night, Dawson MacAuley made 34 saves in the overtime loss.
The Terriers will look to snap their 3 game slide on Wednesday night when they visit the Notre Dame Hounds at 8PM from the Duncan McNeil Arena in Wilcox.
Benny's Game Notes--> Paul Savage returned to the Terrier lineup after been missing since November, and was very solid and poised on the back end, wasn't afraid to jump in rush.
--> With the Terriers a little shorthanded tonight, usual Forward Dylan Johnson played his first Junior game on the backend and you can tell he was a little rusty, but DJ settled in and logged some solid minutes.
--> Terriers were without 2 veteran players as Josh Ellis & Kailum Gervais didn't play due to lower body injuries
-- Terriers are now 1-3 against the Broncos this season and their next meeting is Jan 31st back in Humboldt.

Spilchal nets SO Winner as Wayway dumps Dauphin 3-2; Mils win 1st place showdown
The Wayway Wolverines were credited for their strong effort with a 3-2 shootout victory over the Dauphin Kings.
After a scoreless opening period, the Dauphin Kings would open the scoring 6:26 into the middle frame as Kirklan Lycar would finish off a nice tic tac toe passing play to hammer home his 10th to make it 1-0 Kings. But that lead would be short lived as just 5:19 later Dylan Gedjos would bang home his 9th through goalie Troy Martynuk to tie things up at 1-1. Before the 2nd buzzer could go off Quinton Cubbon would give the Wolverines their first lead at 2-1 after 40 minutes.
After a back and forth start to the 3rd period, the offence would return just half way in as Lycar would one time his 2nd of the night and 11th of the campaign to tie things up and force the Overtime period which would solve nothing.
In the shootout Brock Paddock (Way) and Mathieu Lapointe (Dau) would score for their respective sides in the first 3 shooters forcing the extra shots. In those extra shots, George Spilchal would be the only that would score to the give the Wayway Wolverines a 3-2 shootout win.
20 year old Mitch Wiebe made 23 saves in the victory while Troy Martynuk stopped 38 shots in the shootout cause.
The Wolverines will return to the ice on Tuesday when they visit the Virden Oil Capitals.

This year's guest speakers are retired 15 year NHL veteran Rich Pilon (pictured right) and former wide receiver of the Saskatchewan Rough Riders Don Narcisse (pictured left
Rich Pilon is from Saskatoon, SK where he was drafted by the New York Islanders in the 7th round, 143rd overall in the 1986 NHL Entry Draft.
Pilon made his NHL debut in the 1988-1989, playing 62 games, recording 14 assists and 242 penalty minutes for the New York Islanders. He would play 10 season there before being claimed on waivers December 1, 1999 by the New York Rangers. He played parts of two seasons as a Ranger. Was traded to the San Jose Sharks for a 7th round draft pick, days before he became an unrestricted free agent in 2001. He was then signed by the St. Louis Blues on July 10, 2001. He played 8 games for the Blues until he suffered a broken left wrist in a game against the Rangers that subsequently ended his NHL career.
Rich is now coaching hockey in Saskatoon and following his son Garrett Pilon who was drafted by the Kamloops Blazers in the 7th round of the WHL Bantam Draft in 2013. Garrett, currently leads the SMAAAHL in scoring with 55 points in 27 games with the Saskatoon Contacts. Before the 1st buzzer could sound, the Wings would add one more as Jacob Jeske would add his 1st of 2 on the night to give the visitors a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes.

The Terriers would get on the board at the 10:43 mark as Kurt Johnas would get his 9th to get them on the board at 7-1. Matt Eng would add another for the Wings late, to give them a 8-1 advantage after 2 periods.
In the 3rd, the play would even up a bit and the Terriers would get the lone goal of the period as Jordan Evans would extend his goal streak to 3 games as he slipped one past the Wings goalie to make it a final of 8-2 Weyburn over Yorkton.
Both Terrier goaltenders saw action in the game as Matt Kustra made 27 saves on 31 shots, while Dawson MacAuley also let in 4 goals, but on 15 shots. Red Wings' netminder Jack Burgart made 32 saves for the win.
