MJHL Weekend Recap; Local Hockey Weekend Recap

Sunday Night
Johl Swedlo had 2 goals to lead the Wayway Wolverines to their first win of the 2015/16 season a 5-3 victory over the Neepawa Natives.

Brock Paddock, Riley Shamray and Aaron Dupasquier also scored for the Wolverines who got 33 saves from Greg Harney for his 1st MJHL victory.

Wolverines will look for their 2nd straight win on Tuesday when they visit the Dauphin Kings at 7PM MB time.

On Saturday night,

The Swan Valley Stampeders got a point but they wrapped their 2015 Old Dutch MJHL Showcase with a 4-3 OT loss to the Steinbach Pistons in Winnipeg.

Josh Tripp, Keaton Jameson and Trevor Mann all scored for the Stamps while Zach Degraves made 38 saves in the loss.

The Stamps next action will be on Tuesday night when they visit the OCN Blizzard at 7PM


Other Weekend Notes:
**Congrats to a couple local products on their firsts' in the WHL. Yorkton product Jake Kustra netted his 1st WHL goal with the Saskatoon Blades in their loss to Vancouver on Sunday.
   --Meanwhile Lasse Petersen of Swan River made 19 saves for the Calgary Hitmen in their 3-0 win over Regina to earn his 1st WHL shutout in his regular season debut.

** It's been a rough start for both the Melville Millionaires & Yorkton Terriers as they both have opened up with 0-6 records after losses to Weyburn & Notre Dame respectively on Friday.
    -- Both teams are headed to the SJHL Showcase in Warman with YOR playing La Ronge on Monday at 3PM and then play their Highway 10 rivals on Tuesday at 12:30PM. The Mils will open up the showcase on Monday taking on Nipawin at 12:30PM.

**The Yorkton Rawtec Maulers opened up their 2015/16 SMAAAHL season with a couple of victories over the Tisdale Trojans including Kaeden Taphorn scoring the OT winner as the Maulers won on Friday night in Tisdale 4-3.
     --- Their next action will be on Tuesday night when they visit the Notre Dame Argos at 8PM from the Duncan McNeil Arena.

**In the SFMAAAHL, the Melville Prairie Fire split their season opening weekend matchups with the Saskatoon Stars. The Prairie Fire won on Saturday 3-1, and then the Stars came back with a 8-2 victory on Sunday. 
  -- The Prairie Fire's next action will be on Saturday when they host the Prince Albert Bears at 4PM from the Horizon Credit Union Center.

**The Yorkton Gardon Crushers Bantam Female hockey team hosted their first ever South Sask Female Bantam A games over the weekend and they swept Weyburn in both games, 3-1 and 7-3.
