Mils; Terriers drop road decisions on Friday night

The Melville Millionaires suffered their 4th straight loss on Friday night losing 4-1 on the road to the Nipawin Hawks.

After a scoreless 1st period, the Mils would strike early in the 2nd period as Issac Embree would walk off the side wall and snap home his 9th of the season past Jake Anthony on the powerplay to make it 1-0 Mils. The Hawks would respond just 5:53 later as Jake Tremblay would come in on a 2 on 1 and sneak one through Colby Entz for his 7th of the year that would even the score at 1-1 after 40 minutes. Shots were 29-16 Hawks after 2 periods.

In the 3rd, the Hawks powerplay would take over. Mils defenceman Mitchell Torrens would be issued a 5 minute major for head contact and the Hawks would strike twice. First off SJHL's leading scoring dman Josh McDougall one-timer would beat Colby Entz five-hole for his 9th goal of the season to give them their first lead 2-1. Veteran forward Grant Baetsen would make it 3-1 as his long snap-shot would beat the Mils net minder on the blocker side to give them a 2 goal lead. The Hawks would add some more late insurance on another goal on the man-advantage as Baetsen would get his 6th of the season to help pace the Hawks to their 3 goal victory.

Jake Anthony made 23 saves for the victory in the Hawks net while Colby Entz made 41 stops in the losing cause.

The win was the Hawks 12th straight win at home while the Mils losing streak against the Hawks continues as they haven't beat the Hawks in regular season play since Oct 31st/14

The Mils and Hawks will meet in the back end of the home and home series on Saturday night at 7:30 from the Horizon Credit Union Cenrter

It will also be the Mils Toy Drive game as if you bring a $10 or more valued unwrapped toy to the game you'll get into the game free of charge.

Elsewhere in the SJHL,

The Yorkton Terriers suffered their 3rd straight loss as they fell 9-0 on the road to the Estevan Bruins

Michael McChesney both had 2 goals to lead the way for the Bruins while Bo Didur stopped 24 shots for his 1st shutout and 1st SJHL win.

Joe Marcouiler made 55 saves in the loss.

The two teams once again on Saturday night at the Farrell Agencies Arena for a 7:30 puck drop. Once again the admission for the game for everybody will be only 2 dollars.

Weyburn slipped by Kindersley 4-1

Humboldt beat Flin Flon 4-3

In the MJHL,

The Wayway Wolverines got 3 point nights from Jesse Kortyko (1G 2A) and Ryan Ignace (3A) as they defeated the Winnipeg Blues 8-2.

Brandon Lawson, Drew Anderson, Jeff Venzon, Mack McPhee, Peyton Malcolm and Darren Gisti also scored for the Wolverines.

Issac Labelle made 30 saves to earn the victory for Waywayseecappo.

The Wolverines will return to the ice on Saturday night back at home when they host the Swan Valley Stampeders at 7:30.
