Berkeliev's 1st SJHL shutout leads Mils to road victory in Wilcox

The Melville Millionaires' earned their 2nd straight victory on Tuesday night as they blanked the Notre Dame Hounds in Wilcox by a score of 2-0.

The Mils would get the only goal of the first and it would come a man short as Luke Nkwama would show off his good speed and get a partial break and his shot go that went off the blocker of Riley Kohonick right into the slot for Rin Beny who made no mistake over his right shoulder for his 3rd of the season to give the Mils the 1-0 advantage after 20 minutes.

Shots after 1 were 11-10 Notre Dame.

In the 2nd, the Mils would continue to lead the game 1-0 for most of the period until they would add their 2nd short-handed goal of the game as captain Aidan Steinke playing in his 1st game since Nov. 5th would get his 7th of the season slipping it over the shoulder of Kohonick to make it a two goal through 2 periods of play.

Shots after 2 was 25-16 Hounds (14-6 for ND in 2nd)

Both teams had some chances in the 3rd but it would end up as a scoreless period.

Mils' netminder Berk Berkeliev made 36 saves to earn his 1st SJHL shutout while Riley Kohonick made 20 saves on 22 saves in the loss in the Hounds' net.

The Mils will wrap up their pre-Christmas break schedule on Saturday night when they visit the Humboldt Broncos.



Elsewhere in the SJHL,

Melfort Mustangs edged the La Ronge Ice Wolves 4-3 in the shootout.

In the MJHL,

Conrad Phillips recorded a Hat- Trick to lead the Waywayseecappo Wolverines to a 5-2 victory over the Dauphin Kings.

The win also snapped the Kings 7 game winning streak.

Rayman Bassi and Jack Kennedy also scored for the Wolverines while Liam Tereposky turned aside 25 shots in the win.

Grady Hobbs and Austin Lamotte replied the Kings.

The Wolverines will return to action on Thursday night when they visit the Virden Oil Capitals.

Other MJHL result:

Steinbach Pistons doubled up the Winnipeg Blues 4-2.
