Millionaires drop 2nd straight after loss to Battlefords


The Melville Millionaires dropped their 2nd straight on Tuesday night, 7-4 to the Battlefords North Stars.

The North Stars struck first early in 1st as just 1:40 in, Bradley Blake beat Mils netminder Will Dyke over the right shoulder for his 16th goal of the season to make it 1-0.

The Mils responded just 7 minutes later as Colby Ball's wrister beat a screened North Stars goalie for his 9th to tie things up. 

Kole Keen helped the visitors grab their first lead of the night as he got a stick on a Bradley Banach shot for his 7th to give Melville a 2-1 advantage through 1 period.

Shots after 1: 15-9 North Stars.

Alex Izyk evened things up just 4:28 into the 2nd period on the PP as his wrister beat the Mils netminder short-side. 

But the Millionaires responded yet again as they got a couple back, which were both first goals of the SJHL careers for Cohen Swan & Gaborik Carlson to give Melville their first two-goal lead at 4-2.

The North Stars though late knotted a couple from Ben Portner on the powerplay and Jackson Allan with 15 seconds left in the middle frame to make it 4-4 headed into the 2nd intermission.

Shots after 2nd: 26-20 North Stars.

The North Stars added three in the 3rd period from Portner, Jordan Grill and Riley Girod to lead them to victory. 

Logan Cunningham made 23 saves to earn the win, while Mils’ G William Dyke made 30 saves in the loss

The Millionaires return to action on Wednesday visiting the Kindersley Klippers.
