Mils lose 4th straight to Melfort; Stamps beat Wayway on Wednesday Night

The Melville Millionaires lost their 4th straight and 3rd this season to Melfort, 5-2 to the Mustangs.

The Mustangs would draw first blood just 2:14 into the 1st period as Rylan Freed would gobble up a rebound and banged home his 7th of the season to make it 1-0. The score would stay like that until just 1 second left as Tristan Frei would finish off a nice passing play for his 25th goal of the year to give Melfort a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes. Shots 9-4 Mustangs.

The Mils would cut the deficit in half as Christian Stevens would go top shelf with 19th of his rookie season to make it 2-1. Then they would get the equalizer with just 1:23 to go as Liam Shaw would deflect home his 11th to make it a 2-2 hockey game. But for the 2nd straight period, Tristan Frei would get another last minute period goal, his 2nd of the night and 26th of the year to give the Mustangs a 3-2 after 2 periods Shots after 40 were 25-12 for the home team.

The home team would halt the visitors comeback as Frei would complete the hat trick with his 27th of the season to make it a 4-2 lead. Adam Hergott would add another one late for the Mustangs to give them a 5-2 home victory.

Richard Palmer made 15 saves on 17 shots for the win for the 'Stangs while Cam Pateman making his 2nd straight start stopped 31 shots.

The Mils return to action on Friday when they host the league leading Battlefords North Stars at 7:30.

In the MJHL

The Swan Valley Stampeders got win number 21 as they beat the visiting Wayway Wolverines 3-2 on Wednesday night.

Riley McKay, Evan Last and Tanner Koroscil scored for the Stamps while Brett Opperman and Brock Paddock replied for the Wolverines.

Zach Degraves made 34 saves in the win for the Stamps while Wolverine goalie Greg Harney made 30 saves in the loss.

The Stamps return to action Friday when they visit the Winkler Flyers while the Wolverines entertain the OCN Blizzard also on Friday.
