Wayway snaps 6 game losing streak; Stamps fall on home ice on Sunday Night
The Waywayseecappo Wolverines snapped their 6 game losing steak, doubling up the Virden Oil Capitals 2-1 on Sunday night.
The Wolverines would come out really fast to start the first and they would get the opening goal just 31 seconds into the 1st as Layne Anderson's shot was deflecting home by Johl Swedlo for his 23rd goal of the season to give Wayway a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.
In the 2nd period, the Wolverines would add to their lead as Layne Anderson would finish off a nice passing play for his 3rd goal of the season, to give the Wolverines a 2 goal lead at 2-0 after 2 periods.
Mack Hardy would make things interesting as he would cut the Wolverines' lead in half with a PP goal, his 27th of the year to make it 2-1 but thats as close as they would get as the Wolverines' held on for their 15th victory of the season.
Troy Martyniuk (pictured above) was very solid in net for the Wolverines and earned his 5th win of the season.
The Wolverines' play their 2nd to last regular season game on Tuesday night when they host the defending RBC Cup champion Portage Terriers. GX94 will broadcast the game with Yorkton Dodge Junior Hockey, pregame 7:20 pxp at 7:30 from Waywayseecappo.
Elsewhere in the MJHL,
The Swan Valley Stampeders lost on home ice at the Centennial Arena, dropping a 6-1 decision to the visiting Steinbach Pistons.
Cody Ellingson scored the lone goal for the Stamps while Brett Evans got the loss in goal for Swan making 35 saves.
The Stamps will wrap up their regular season with what could possibly be a playoff preview, on Thursday when they visit the Wayway Wolverines at 7:30
