The Melville Millionaires let a 3rd period lead slip away as they fell 5-3 on the road to the Humboldt Broncos on Friday night.
It wasn't the start of the game the Mils were looking for as the Broncos were able to get out to an early 8-0 shot lead and they would also get the first goal as Chris Van Os Shaw would pick up a loose puck and poke him his league-leading 34th of the season to make it 1-0. Then the Mils would get the first PP on the night and they would convert as Alex Maticic would pick up a loose puck and back home his 5th of the season to tie it up at 1-1. The Mils would grab their first lead just 41 seconds later on another back-hand as Tucker Scantlebury would go top-shelf on Cartet Seminuk for his team leading 13th of the season to make it 2-1. Logan Karkochuk's slapper from the point with just over 6 seconds to go on the power play would add to the Mils' lead & make it 3-1 after 1 period with the Broncos leading the shots 11-8.
The Broncos would cut it within 1, 8:08 into the 2nd period as Luke Kempf would bang home his 5th of the year on a 5 on 3 PP to cut their deficit within 1 as the Mils continued to lead the home-side 3-2 after 40 minutes with shots 28-13 Humboldt.
Humboldt would draw even as Logan Schatz would knock home his 7th of the season early in the 3rd to make it 3-3. Then just a short time later, Connor Swystun would take a nice cross-ice feed and go five-hole on Colby Entz for his 9th on the PP to make it a 4-3 Bronco lead. Tristan would then sneak a back-end through the Mils net minder to add some insurance to help the Broncos win their 27th of the season.
Garrett Mason came in relief of Carter Seminuk and got the W in net for Humboldt stopping all 16 shots he faced. Colby Entz made 35 saves for the Mils in the loss.
The Mils are back in action next Friday when they host the Yorkton Terriers on GX94.
Speaking of those Terriers.
Yorkton Terriers got back into the win column with a 2-1 win over the Notre Dame Hounds on Friday in Fort Qu'Appelle.
Matt Vernon was outstanding making 47 saves on 48 shots while Dakota Odgers and Jordan Hudson scored the Terrier goals.
Terriers go right back at it on Saturday as they host the Weyburn Red Wings at 7:30 from the FAA.
