Wayway drops 3rd straight, 8-2 to the Portage Terriers (MJHL)

The Wayway Wolverines dropped their 3rd straight game on Thursday night, losing 8-2 to the visiting Portage Terriers at the Wayway Arena Complex.

In the 1st, the Terriers would get the only offence and their goals would come just 25 seconds apart. First one would come from MJHL leading scorer Jeremy Leipsic who would finish off a nice passing play for his 27th of the season to make it 1-0. Then just 25 seconds later, Josh Martin would take a nice feed in front and snipe home his 12th to give the Terriers a 2-0 lead after 1 period with shots favouring the Terriers 8-4.

The Wolverines would cut their deficit in half on the powerplay as Cody Durdle would go top shelf on Kurtis Chapman for his 8th of the season to make it 2-1. The Terriers would then come back with 3 unanswered goals from Ryan Hendrix, Ryan Sokoloski and Ty Barnstable to give the visitors a 5-1 lead on Wayway after 40 minutes. Shots 24-15 Terriers after 2 periods.

Just 48 seconds into the 3rd the Wolverines would make their deficit just 3 as Brandon Stanley would hammer home a back door feed from Landyn Cochrane for his 22nd goal to make it 5-2. But the Terriers would respond in a big way with 3 more unanswered goals as Turner Santin, McKenzie Dwyer and Leipsic (his 2nd of the night) to give the Terriers the 6 goal win.

Kurtis Chapman made 23 saves on 25 shots for his 7th win of the season for the Terriers while Hunter Lorenson turned aside 26 shots in the losing cause.

The Wolverines are back in action on Saturday night when they visit the Winkler Flyers for a 7:30 puck drop.
