Melville 7 at Moose Jaw 4
With their 7-4 victory in Moose Jaw the Millionaires improved to 3-3 on
the season. The loss dropped the Miller Express to 1-4. Melville pounded
out 12 hits while Moose Jaw had five hits but also committed five
errors.
Marshall McPherson brought his big swing to the ballpark again as he hit
his third home run in the last two games. McPherson added two RBI, two
runs while raising his batting average to .400. Designated hitter Mason
Furlong (pictured above) also went yard for Melville.
Moose Jaw Outfielder Travis Able contributed a run, a walk and two hits including a double in a losing cause.
Starter Brody Curry pitched five innings for the Melville win. The
Millionaire bullpen came on and pitched four scoreless innings to close
out the game.
Express starter Zach McDonald made his WMBL season debut, pitching four
innings before giving way to Jesse Marks, who took the loss.
Weyburn 6 at Yorkton 1
For the first eight innings, this game featured a classic pitching
battle as Weyburn and Yorkton took a 1-1 tie into the ninth inning.
Weyburn broke the game open in the top of the ninth scoring five runs to
pick up their fourth win of the year.
Beavers starter Austin Gurr went 6.2 innings allowing just one run on
four hits before handing the ball to the bullpen. Beau Rabedeaux,
appearing in his fourth game of the season, picked up the win tossing
1.1 innings of shutout ball. Cody Pamperin go the final three outs in
the ninth.
Local Yorkton product Tyson Black, a freshman at Miles Community
College, was strong on the hill for the Cardinals. Black went 5.1
innings in his first start of the season giving up three hits and one
run. Yorkton reliever Tyler McDonald took the loss.
Cam Williams, a member of the University of Calgary Dinos, provided two
hits and three RBI for the Beavers. Brady Nygaard chipped in with two
hits and a run.
Hank Forrest provided the Cardinal offence with two hits, a run and a stolen base.
Okotoks 9 at Brooks 6
A nice crowd of 361 were at Elks Stadium to watch the Okotoks Dawgs run
their record to a perfect 4-0 with a 9-6 win over Brooks.
Okotoks first baseman Kody Funderburk took a bite out of the Brooks
Bombers with two home runs and four RBI. His three-run shot in the third
inning was part of a six-run outburst. Brooks battled back but fell
just short leaving two runners stranded in the bottom of the ninth.
Calgary native Matt Zanutto was two for four at the plate for the Bombers.
Nick Vickers making his first start of the 2017 campaign picked up the
Dawgs win. Brooks starter Mason Swegarden, took the loss after facing 34
batters over seven innings.
Okotoks had 13 hits and two errors while Brooks registered nine hits and an error in the contest.
Lethbridge 4 at Swift Current 2
In a battle of undefeated teams, the Lethbridge Bulls outscored the Swift Current 57’s 4-2.
Bulls catcher Carter Witbeck continues to have an outstanding season.
Witbeck was two for three with an RBI pushing his season batting average
to .520. Brock Frentzel also had a good night for Lethbridge adding
two hits and three RBI.
Brett Esau from Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan, was strong at the plate for
the 57’s. Esea was two for four. Keil Krumwiede added to the excitement
with his first home run of the season, while Cole Thibideau also had two
hits for Swift Current.
Greg Hollman was stellar on the mound for the Bulls throwing seven
complete innings allowing just one run on seven hits. He also struck out
seven of the 30 batters he faced. Closer Chris Stodolka picked up his
third save of the 2017 campaign.
Bobby St. Pierre was charged with the loss for Swift Current.
419 fans at Mitchell Field watched as Lethbridge improved to 6-0 while Swift Current’s record dropped to 4-1.
Edmonton 6 at Fort McMurray 2
The Edmonton Prospects outhit the Fort McMurray Giants 12 -6 on their way to a 6-2 victory at Shell Stadium.
Edmonton’s Aiden Huggins was a stellar three for four with a run, a walk and a RBI for the visitors.
Hector Benitez and Ryan Villarreal each has two hits and a run for the hometown Giants.
Edmonton also got another strong pitching performance from starter Erik
Sabrowski. The sophomore from Cisco Community College tossed seven
innings allowing just one run on five hits. Sabrowski struck out 13 of
the 28 batters he faced.
The loss went to Giants starter Alex Nolan, who pitched 4.1 innings.
