Mils win final home game; Cardinals fall in Swift in July 27th WMBL Roundup

Melville overcame a 5-1 deficit to defeat the Moose Jaw Miller Express 7-6.  
 
Scott Platt led Moose Jaw with three runs, three hits including a double, a RBI and a stolen base.
 
Melville first baseman Marshall McPherson chipped in with three hits and two runs in the Millionaires victory. Keaton Sullivan also added his sixth home run of the season. 
 
Tanner Emes started for Moose Jaw and took the loss. He gave up seven runs and eight hits over 4.1 innings. 
 
Brody Curry got the nod for Melville and turned the game over to the Millionaire bullpen after four innings. Andrew Astalos came on in relief to earn the win. Mason Furlong pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the save.

  Swift Current defeated Yorkton 8-3 to maintain their hold on first place in the Eastern Division. 422 fans were on hand at Mitchell Field to watch the 57’s win their 3rd game in a row. The Cardinal dropped their eighth consecutive game.    
 
Bryce Mulcahy started for the Cardinals and was charged with five runs on five hits and three walks over 4.2 innings. Yorkton relievers DJ Depiero and Kyle Stevenson stepped in to finish the game.
 
Wayne State College starter Bobby St. Pierre made his 10th start of the season for Swift Current. His six innings, three hit effort was good enough to earn his fifth win. 
 
Blake Adams had two doubles and drove in two runs as he set a new single season Swift Current RBI record with 48. 
 
Yorkton had five hits from five different players in the game. 
 
Swift Current is now 29-15 and now hold a one game lead over the second-place Regina Red Sox in the Eastern Division standings. Third-place Weyburn is 1.5 games back of the 57’s.
