Regina's Wright captures 1st Saskatchewan Men's Amateur Title in Yorkton

Regina's Tyler Wright has won his 1st ever Saskatchewan Men's Amateur Championship.

The 38 year old hung on for the victory after firing a final round of 4 over 76 to finish the tournament at 2-under par, 1 shot better than Yorkton product Matt Procyshen, Unity's Justin Wood and the Prince Albert duo of Cory Selander and Danny Klughart.

A playoff would be need to determine the 2nd to 5th place finishers and they went in the order of Selander, Klughart, Procyshen and Wood.

Melville's Mitchell Matichuk tied for the round of day shooting a 4 under par 68 to finish in 7th place at +4.

Other local products involved include: Kade Johnson (Yorkton) fired 2 over 74 to finish at +11 in 13th place while Kipling's Carson Harcourt finished at +14 in 17th place.

Wright, Selander and Klughart will now comprise of Team Saskatchewan for the 2017 Canadian Men's Amateur Golf Championships happening Aug. 7th-10th in Mississauga, Ontario while Procyshen, Wood, Matichuk, Jehremy Ryde, and Marc Sweeney also qualified for the championship from their placing
