For the 3rd straight time in the series, the home team came out on top as the Portage Terriers defeated the Swan Valley Stampeders 3-2 on Wednesday night to take a 2-1 lead in the MJHL Turnbull Cup Final series.
After a scoreless 1st period, the Terriers would strike first just 2:37 into the middle frame as Logan Calder found Scott Mickoski wide-open in front of the Stamps net and he would make no mistake beating Merek Pipes to make it 1-0. It would stay like that until late stages of the period when Orca Wiesblatt sent a nice saucer pass to Jay Buchholz back-door and he would tap it by Pipes to give the Terriers a 2 goal lead after 40 minutes.
In the 3rd, the Stamps would finally come out with a little bit of jump and they would rewarded as Bradly Goethals would cause a turnover at the Portage blue-line and then find Alex Uryga in front who one-timed it by Ethan Peterson for his 5th of the playoffs to make it 2-1. The just over three minutes later the Stamps would get the equalizer off a nice individual rush from Dane Hirst as he would go wide around the Terriers' net then his wraparound would squeak through Peterson to make it 2-2.
But the Terriers would respond with the game winner as with just 6 seconds left on their 4 minute powerplay it would be Scott Mickoski jumping on a rebound and potting in his 2nd of the night to lead his team to the win.
Ethan Peterson wasn't tested all that much in the game making 16 saves on 18 shots while Merek Pipes was very good in the Stamps' net keeping his team in it making 33 saves on 37 shots.
The series now shifts back to Swan River for Game number 4 on Saturday night from the Centennial Arena. GX94 will once again broadcast the game with Yorkton Dodge Junior Playoff Hockey, there will be no pregame show with Kinsmen Radio Bingo happening, so we will pick up the play by play right after at around 8PM MB time.
