Local Weekend Recap

 SJHL: 

The Melville Millionaires and Yorkton Terriers had a pretty successful weekend on the ice. 

The Terriers got 4 out of a possible 4 points after a 6-2 win over La Ronge Ice Wolves on Friday, and a 1-0 shootout victory over the Nipawin Hawks on Saturday night. 

The Terriers' will return to action on Friday night on GX94 when they visit the Melfort Mustangs. 

The Millionaires' fell 4-3 in overtime to Nipawin on Friday,  and then rebounded in Churchbridge on Saturday with a 5-2 win over the La Ronge Ice Wolves to earn 3 out of a possible 4 weekend points. 

The Moneymen are back on home ice on Tuesday hosting the Notre Dame Hounds at 7:00PM.

MJHL: 

The Swan Valley Stampeders split their two games this past weekend with the Winkler Flyers.

The Stamps' fell 2-0 on Friday, before a 6-5 overtime on Saturday night at the Centennial Arena. 

It was also pretty cool for the Stampeders' to recognize former Stampeder Justin Falk, whose now the Head Coach and GM of the Flyers. 

Falk suited up as a 16 year old for the Stamps, then went on to play over 300 games in the National Hockey League. 

Swan has the week off before visiting the Winnipeg Freeze on Saturday. 

Meanwhile, the Waywayseecappo Wolverines snapped a 3 game losing streak on Sunday with a 10-6 win over the Winnipeg Freeze on a night they honored Shane Goodrunning. 

Goodrunning, died in April of 2020 at the age of 28. 

The Alberta product suited up in 140 career games with the Wolverines contributing 131 points. 

Waywayseecappo returns to action on Thursday when they entertain the Selkirk Steelers.

LOCAL FOOTBALL:

An exciting finish for the Saskatchewan Huskies Football team who came back to beat the Montreal Carabins 14-10 in Saturday's Uteck Bowl in Montreal. 

Local players on the Huskie squad include Esterhazy's Sam Baker, Langenburg's Noah Zerr, Melville's John Stoll, Ituna's Coy Clark, Carter McLean of Foam Lake, and Yorkton's Matthew Mandziuk & Jordin Rusnack.

The Huskies will play for a Vanier Cup this Saturday in Quebec, City when they battle the Western Mustangs starting at 2:00PM.

It was also a successful weekend for Melville Cobra linebacker Taylen Assman-Shewchuk. 

Assman-Shewchuk helped the Saskatchewan U15 squad capture the National Youth Alliance Pigskin tournament over a team from Kansas City on Saturday in Las Vegas, Nevada. 

The 14U selects also won Gold, while 13U's earned a Silver medal.
