Terriers; Millionaires both drop road decisions on Tuesday

RED WINGS 4, TERRIERS 3 (SO)

The Yorkton Terriers’ win streak against the Weyburn Red Wings came to an end on Tuesday after 4-3 shootout loss on the road.

The Red Wings got the opening goal just over two minutes into the game as Braden Birnie notched his 5th of the season to give the home side the early lead, that’s before JD Hall replied just over a minute for Terriers to tie it up at 1-1.

The two teams would then exchange powerplay goals from Tyson Janzen (Yorkton) and Beau Larson (Weyburn) to put it at 2-2 through 1 period.

In the 2nd, the Terriers grabbed the one goal lead back when Enrique Fontes swatted home his 4th of the season, and 3rd goal against the Wings this season to make it a 3-2 game.

But, Weyburn product Cooper Chisholm got the equalizer a little while later going bar-down on Terriers’ G Kael DePape to make it 4-4.

After a scoreless 3rd and overtime, a shootout would be needed as after exchanging early goals we’d have to wait awhile for the next one which would be the 10th round of the shootout and that’s Graham Skinner snipe one over the right-pad of DePape and then Jackson Fellner stopped Tanner Sklaruk to help Weyburn gain the extra point.

Fellner turned aside 44 of 47 Terrier shots to earn the win, while DePape made 20 saves in the shootout loss.

The Terriers will return to action on Friday night when they visit the Melville Millionaires at the HCUC. GX94 will broadcast the game with Legacy Co-op Terriers hockey, the pregame starts at 6:50 and the play by play gets underway at 7:00.
