March 11th Local MJHL/SJHL Recap

MJHL:

The Swan Valley Stampeders earned their 7th straight win on Saturday night after a 6-1 victory over the Niverville Nighthawks at the Centennial Arena.

Alex Walicki led the way for Swan with 1G 2A while Warren Marcotte scored twice and Collin Jennings, Josh Danis and Justin Keck chipped in with singles.

Brett Tataryn replied for the Nighthawks.

Loic Mainguy-Crepault earned his 9th victory of the season in the Stampeders goal making 36 stops.

The Stamps who clinched home-ice in round 1 with the win will return to action on Thursday night visiting the Virden Oil Capitals.

Elsewhere in the MJHL,

-The Waywayseecappo Wolverines won their 2nd straight as Boone Mathison & Nolan Grier each scored twice to lead them to a 9-1 win over Winnipeg Blues.

-Dawson Milliken scored the SO winner to lead the Steinbach Pistons to a 1-0 win over the OCN Blizzard.


-The Neepawa Titans got two goals from Hayden Stocks to lead them to a 3-1 win over Winkler.


-AP Havryil Simchuk scored the only goal of the shootout to help the Dauphin Kings to a big 4-3 triumph over the Portage Terriers.

SJHL:

The Yorkton Terriers dropped their final game of their 2022/23 season after a 7-5 road loss to the Humboldt Broncos.

Karsten Kruska, Greg Nelson, Dylan Ruptash and Cohner Saleski scored the goals for the Terriers who got a 44 saves performance from Caleb Allen in the loss.

Also the Junior careers of graduating Terrier 20 year old's: Maddux Nollski, Logan Cyca, Greg Nelson, Karsten Kruska, JD Hall and Cohner Saleski.

Other Saturday SJHL results:

-Steven Kesslering and Holden Doell each had hat-tricks to lead the top-ranked Battlefords to a convincing 8-0 win over the Kindersley Klippers.

- Brent Gulenchyn scored short-handed GWG in the 3rd & Harmon Laser-Hume made 35 saves to lead Flin Flon to a 3-2 win over La Ronge.
**Ice Wolves loss clinches home ice for Melfort in their series with LA.
