WADENA WILDCATS CAPTURE FIRST EVER PROVINCIAL SENIOR HOCKEY TITLE
It was a special night on Saturday night in Wadena, as the hometown Wildcats captured their first ever Senior hockey provincial title after beating the Carlyle Cougars 3-2 on Saturday night in Game 2 of their Best of 3 Senior "B" Final.
The Wildcats outshot the Cougars 39-22 in the game and got goals from Andrew Schaab, Torrie Dyck and Shain Scheschuk as they won their first provincial title in their 77 year history.
Congrats to the entire Wadena Wildcats organization and the town of Wadena on the win.
Wadena will now shift their focus to their Long Lake Hockey League championship series which continues on Tuesday night in Davidson as they look to stay alive taking on the Cyclones in Game 3 of their Best of 5 series.

LOCAL TEAMS QUALIFY FOR HOOPLA 2023
The Saskatchewan High School Regional Basketball championships wrapped up across the province over the weekend and there was a few local schools that qualified for Hoopla 2023 in Prince Albert.
In the 2A Girls, Rocanvalle Rara Avis captured a Provincials berth on home court after a 76-41 victory over Southey in their regional final and they'll take on Wilkie in their first game of Hoopla.
Meanwhile in Wynyard, the hometown Golden Bears earned a Hoopla berth after defeating Regina Christian 70-57 in the final of their regionals.
The Golden Bears will take on St, Walburg in the Provincial Semi-Final.
On the boys side, the Preeceville Panthers earned a Hoopla berth in the 2A boys category by getting past Paradise Hill 69-38 in their Regional final on home court.
The Panthers take on Legacy Christian Academy in their Provincial Semi-Final.
Finally, the Fort Qu'Appelle Bert Fox Marauders will take on Regina Christian in their first game of their 3A Boys Hoopla event after a 89-63 victory over the Indian Head Broncs in their Regional championship game.

Moosomin's Metzger; Birtle's Amy helped Mount Royal capture USports Women's Hockey National Title
For the first time in school history, the Mount Royal Cougars are U-Sports Women's National Hockey champions.
Emma Bergesen scored at 11;10 of overtime Sunday as the Cougars defeated the
Concordia Stingers 4-3 in a dramatic finish.
The Stingers led 3-2 with 10
seconds left in the third period and appeared ready to hoist the University Cup
when the Cougars got possession of the puck
Breanne Trotter scored her second
goal of the game with only two seconds on the clock to force the overtime.
The Cougars' featured local players in Tatum Amy (Birtle, MB) and Ava Metgzer (Moosomin, SK).
On the Men's side, Moosomin's Dawson Davidson and the Alberta Golden Bears dropped the Gold Medal game of the U-Sports Men's University Cup hockey championships, 3-0 to the UNB Varsity Reds.

2023 MJHL Playoff Match-Ups now set! 
The 2022/23 Manitoba Junior Hockey League regular season is now complete, and the 2023 playoff matchups are now set for Round 1.
In the West, the division champion Swan Valley Stampeders will take on the Dauphin Kings in a rematch of the 2022 playoffs while the Virden Oil Capitals tangle with the 2nd-seeded OCN Blizzard.
Meanwhile in the East Division, the top-seeded Portage Terriers will battle the Niverville Nighthawks and the Steinbach Pistons are up against the Winkler Flyers. '
All series are most likely to get underway on Friday night including Swan Valley hosting Dauphin.
