Third period comeback helps Stampeders strike first in 1st round MJHL Playoff matchup

The Swan Valley Stampeders took an early 1-0 series lead in their first round MJHL playoff series after a 2-1 victory over the Dauphin Kings on Friday night.

Carter Zalischuk opened the scoring in the game for the Kings as he pick-pocketed Stamps' D Collin Jennings then put it over the left shoulder for his 1st career MJHL playoff goal to the give the visitors the early advantage through 20 minutes.

After a scoreless 2nd, the Stampeders evened things up just 4:45 into the 3rd period as Trey Sauder got a stick on a long Jennings' point shot to make it 1-1 before Justin Keck deflected home the game winner with just 68 seconds left to send the Stamps crowd home happy.

MJHL Goalie of the Year Kobe Grant turned aside 29 of 30 shots to earn the win while Kings' G Cole Sheffield was also very solid making 37 saves in the loss.

The two teams meet again on Saturday night from Dauphin's Credit Union Place and GX94 will broadcast the game as we will pick up the game in progress after Kinsmen Radio bingo starting at around 8:00PM Manitoba time (7PM Sask. time)
