In a very entertaining hockey game between 2 very good teams, and despite the very good effort from the Yorkton Terriers the result wasn't what they wanted as they fell 2-1 in overtime to the Alberta Junior Hockey League champion Brooks Bandits.
The Bandits came out with a bang in the first period as they out shot and out played the Terriers and would come out with the lone goal of the first as RJ Reed would rip a wrist shot and go bar down on Dawson McAuley for his 3rd goal of the tournament to give the Bandits an early 1-0 lead.
The Teams would exchange chances both ways in the middle frame but as the period would go on , the Terriers would turn the tides on Brooks taking control of most of the middle frame but just couldn't get anything by Bandits goalie Michael Fredrik leaving Brooks with a 1 goal lead.
The third period would begin with the Terriers getting into some penalty trouble that would continue throughout the period but the Terriers would do a good job of penalty killing all afternoon long. Yorkton would then be credited for the strong effort Shorthanded with the tying goal with just under 5 minutes to go in regulation when Nathan Murray would pounce on a loose puck for his 1st to even it up at 1 after regulation time.
The overtime would bring chances to both sides, which included a goal by the Brooks Bandits disallowed because of an offside call. But would end on a scramble play when Shane Pilling would coral the loose puck and put it low glove on McAuley to give the Bandits a 2-1 OT victory.
Dawson McAuley was very good in the Terriers net stopping 40 of 42 shots while Bandits goalie Michael Fredrick made 33 saves for the win.

Terriers remain undefeated with win over Steinbach
The Yorkton Terriers remained undefeated with a 3-2 victory over the Steinbach Pistons.
The Terriers would open the scoring once again when Jeremy Johnson would get his 3rd of the tournament to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead. They would get a 2 goal lead when Chase Norrish would go top shelf on Corey Koop off a nice feed by John Odgers to make it 2-0 Terriers. But before the end of the 1st Steinbach would tie it up when Hayden Goderis would get his 1st of the tournament to make 2-1 Terriers after 1.
The Pistons would even it up at 2 when Trent Genyk would slip it five hole on Dawson McAuley for his 1st of the tournament.. But before the end if the 2nd Tyler Giebel would capitalize on a Piston turnover and make a nice move around Koop for the eventual game winner as the 3rd period went scoreless and the Terriers would end up prevailing 3-2.
Dawson McAuley stopped 32 shots for the victory while Corey Koop would stop 36 shots in a losing cause.

Terriers come from behind to win opener over Nanaimo
The Yorkton Terriers got out to an early lead and then had to come from behind to beat the host Nanaimo Clippers 4-3 in their opener of the Western Canada Cup.
Jeremy Johnson would open the scoring for the Terriers in the first period finishing off a nice passing play to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead. But just a few minutes later, former PG Cougar and 4 year WHL vet Greg Fraser would even up the hockey game at 1-1. But the Terriers would then regain their 1 goal lead as Taylor Thompson would get his 1st goal of the tournament to make it a 2-1 Terriers advantage. Matt Grant thought would tie it up this time at 2 with his 1st to make it all square after 1 period.
There would be back and forth chances in the 2nd period but the lone goal would go to the Clippers as Colton Dahlen's wrist shot from the point would beat a screened Dawson McAuley to give Nanaimo a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes of play.
In the final frame was the best period for the Terriers in the game as they would get 2 goals as first it would be Jeremy Johnson getting his 2nd of the night after capitalizing on a Nanaimo turnover to make it 3-all. Then just a few minutes later, the Terriers would get the winner from a familiar force as captain Devon McMullen would get the winner to give the Terriers a 4-3 victory.
Terriers goalie Dawson McAuley stopped 39 shots for the victory while Clippers' goalie Derek Dun stopped 31 shots but was tagged with the loss.
The Terriers will go right back at on Sunday against the Steinbach Pistons. 2:50/3:00PM Sask time on GX94 or listen live at gx94radio.com

Terriers win convincingly 4-1 in Game 4 to even up series with Humboldt
The Canalta Cup Final is now a Best of 3 as the Yorkton Terriers with a very solid effort defeated the Humboldt Broncos in Game 4 4-1 on home ice to even up the Best of 7 Series at 2 games apiece.
The scoring all got started 4 minutes into the 2nd period when Terriers' Tyler Giebel would pounce on rebound on the powerplay for his 4th goal of the playoffs to make it at 1-0 hockey game after 40 minutes of play.
The Terriers would get a 2 goal lead almost half way through the 3rd, when captain Devon McMullen would go end to end and put it top shelf on Matt Hrynkiw in high light reel fashion to make it 2-0. But just 17 seconds later, the Broncos would strike as David Miazga would pounce on a rebound and put it past Dawson McAuley to make it a 1 goal Terrier lead at 2-1. Jeremy Johnson would increase the lead to 2 goals to 3-1. Then Giebel would ice it into the empty net with less than a minute remaining for his 2nd of the night and 5th of the playoffs to make it a 4-1 Terriers Game 4 victory.
Dawson McAuley was once again solid in the Terrier net stopping 22 of 23 shots while Broncos goalie stopped 30 shots in a losing cause.

Terriers fall for the 2nd Straight time in Humboldt 3-2
The Humboldt Broncos took a 2-1 series lead in the Best of 7 Canalta Cup Final with a 3-2 win over the Yorkton Terriers.
The Terriers opened the scoring just over 5 mins into the opening frame as Tyler Giebel would get his 3rd goal of the playoffs on the Powerplay to make it 1-0 for Yorkton. It would stay that way until Justin Lund would rip a sshot past Dawson McAuley to make it a 1-1 after 1 period.
Lots went on in the 2nd period, including a very scrap between John Odgers and Rhett Blackmur, but maybe a little penalty trouble for the Terriers which included a 5 minute Checking from Behind major to J Odgers, as the Broncos would get 2 Powerplay goals Adam Antkowiak and Alex Forsberg to give Humboldt a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes of play.
In the third, the Terriers would cut their deficit to within 1 as Dakota Odgers would get his 4th goal of the playoffs off a deflection from Patrick Martens shot to make 3-2 but unfortunately that's as close as the Terriers would get.
Matt Hrnykiw stopped 34 of 36 shots for the victory while Dawson McAuley stopped 30 shots but was tagged for the loss.
Terriers now down 2-1 in the series with Game 4 taking place on Thursday back in Yorkton , 7:20/7:30 on GX94.

Mils' Wakaluk up for National Award
It’s been a dream season for Melville Millionaires netminder Alex Wakaluk.
The Bellevue, Alberta product was named the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s Most Valuable Player, and with numbers like his it’s impossible to argue with the selection.
The 19 year old posted a .930 save percentage and was 28-15-3 on the season.
The selection as SJHL M.V.P comes with a nomination for the CJHL Player of the Year Award.
Wakaluk is now one of ten Junior A nominees eligible for the award which is handed out annually at the RBC Cup (May 11-19 at Summerside, PEI.).
Saskatchewan’s last national winner was Devin Edgerton of the Humboldt Broncos who won the award in 1991.

The Yorkton Terriers continued their strong effort from Friday night , and showed another strong game but this time with a different outcome as they defeated the Humboldt Broncos 3-2 on home ice to even up their Best of 7 Canalta Final at 1 game apiece.
The first period was scoreless, despite some glorious chances both ways but both goaltenders Dawson McAuley for Yorkton and Broncos' Matt Hrynkiw were solid in the first frame.

But before the end of the period Joey Davies' would get Humboldt on the board as he walked across the Terrier blueline and got a wrist shot through McAuley for his league leading 13th goal of the playoffs. to make it a 2-1 lead for Yorkton after 40 minutes.
But the Terriers would come back in the 3rd in a hurry as just 28 seconds in Martens would rip a snap shot top shelf on Hrynkiw for his 2nd of the night and 10th of the playoffs to make it 3-1. Just over 6 minutes in the 3rd though, Ryan Aubertin would pull the Broncos within 1 with his 1st of the playoffs but thats as close as they would get to give the Terriers a 3-2 Game 2 victory.
Dawson McAuley stopped 35 of 37 shots for the win while Matt Hrynkiw stopped 28 of 31 shots and was tagged with the loss.
The Terriers powerplay was once again very good as they were 2 for 3 in the hockey game while the Broncos with the man advantage were 1-3

The Yorkton Terriers definately played well enough to win on Friday night but it was the Humboldt Broncos cheering at the end as they won Game 1 of the Canalta Cup in overtime 3-2 to take a 1-0 series lead in the SJHL Final.
There wasn't any scoring in the first frame but some glorious chances both ways,

They would make it 2-0 when Joey Davies would capitalize on a Terrier turnover to snap it past the Terrier goalie for his 12th of the playoffs . But the Terriers would come back as Brady Norrish would rip a slap shot of his own on the Powerplay past Matt Hyrnkiw for his 6th to make it a 2-1 hockey game.

Analysis:.
The two top teams In the Sherwood and North Divisions will do battle in the Canalta Cup Final as the Yorkton Terriers will take on the Humboldt Broncos and itll be the 9th straight year that eithet the Terriers or Broncos will appear in the SJHL Final. The Terriers have been led by their depth as on any given night a particular line or player could step up in any given game. Both teams also boast excellent goaltenders as 18 year old Dawson McAuley has been everything that the Terriers would have wanted from a number 1 goaltender as he has been outstanding between the pipes especially in the series clincer against the Melville Millionaires. While the Broncos goaltender is no slouch as wel as it is the SJHL's Top Goalie for this year in 20 year old Matt Hrynkiw, so goaltending could go a huge part in which direction this series will go for either.
On the backend, the Terriers boast one of the top D cores in the league, and have been led by 19 year old Brady Norrish who likes to jump up in the play all the time and has 5 goals so far in the playoffs, while brother Chase, and Devon McMullen also like to jump in the offensive rushes while veterans Austin Bourhis and John Niebrandt both have WHL experience with Neibrandt having won WHL Championship with the Kootenay Ice. On the other side, the Humboldt Broncos have been led by Logan Sproule who is one of the highest scorers in the playoffs so far with 11 points.
Up front, the Terriers have been led by an abundance of players as a lot of different players have stepped up in big games. But there has been a couple that have stood out in particular as leading goal scorer Patrick Martens, a 20 year old SJHL Rookie who has 8 goals in the playoffs should return back to the line up for Game 1, and also local product Jeremy Johnson has been absolutely superb in his final season of Junior Hockey.
This should be another classic league final in the SJHL, with two very good hockey teams going at it and also Co Coaches of the Year in Yorkton's Trent Cassan & Humboldt's Dean Brockman manning both benches in what should definitely a long and grueling series with a berth to the inaugural Western Canada Cup in Nanimo, British Columbia on the line. Lets Drop the Puck.
